Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

What Radio Station Do You Listen To Most?

A question for proper radio enthusiasts! Personally I'm sick of the 'Top 40' ****e that you hear on most stations. I'm leaning toward my ipod and CD's more and more often these days. Really need an inspiring band to kick us all back to life and one that can continue to maintain my interest where every other has eventually failed over the years. Listen mostly to Phantom these days as even at its worst it is better than all the rest put together IMO! Really hoping Nova will stand up to the test when they go live!

What station do y'all tune in to most at the moment?

Surely 98FM & FM104 (and possibly a few others) are "Local Radio Stations" ?

    And where's 4FM ?

I chose Today FM because it's the one I listen to most, but 4FM comes a close second lately; and I'd also tune in to one of the locals occasionally.

    I forgot about 4FM!

In relation to 98/FM104 seeing as they reach most of Kildare, Meath, Wicklow and Louth as well as Dublin their reach would be in the region of 2milion people? Still 'local' I know but that would be the guts of half the population.

If you were actually following that logic, most of the stations in those areas would also be covering the same population levels, so KFM, East Coast, LMFM, etc would also be included.

And yet you left out actual regional stations like Spin SouthWest, Beat 102-103, iRadio, etc ?

Would there listenership be as big as 98/104?

I never heard of any of those stations so I apologise! You can always choose the 'other' option!

I don't know, but isn't that the whole point of the poll ?

    I've already chosen!

But I was just pointing out that the poll is all over the shop, including some selective individual local stations and leaving out regional ones and a semi-national.

Before posting the poll you should have done some research.....it's pretty obvious that it was posted by someone from Dublin! :D

Not the biggest issue / oversight I'm gonna encounter today, though, so I won't dwell on it! :)

It used to be Today FM all the time but I haven't tuned in in almost a year, gone completely off the presenters. I listen to BBC radio one whenever I can but I can't get it in my car :( So usually stick to my Ipod when I'm driving or listen to Newstalk if there's anything interesting being discussed.

If you have an IPhone you get BBC in the car.

or I sometimes put the bbc podcasts on the ipod to get the fix in the car

The radio station I listen to most often changes from week to week. At the minute it's RTE Radio 1. But previous stations in that place have been BBC Radio 3, BFBS, UCB, Amazing Radio, BBC London and Fun Kids. And during my holiday in Ireland next week it might be Lyric FM or BBC Radio Ulster.

I jump between Radio1 and newstalk usually caused by the George hook ad or Mary-I have an opinion on everything-O'Rouke.
    Matt Cooper in the evenings.

I listen to Lyric when I become weary of propaganda.

RTE Pulse, except on thursdays when they're playing r'nb/hip-hop.

I love Beat 102-103 (South East) as it has all the latest music but good presenters. I cringe when I hear Spin SW, such a terrible radio station. Listen to Ray Foley everyday in work though I wish he'd put up fridays mixes online!

8-9am- Jim Jim & Paddy on 2fm. Love it, hated Colm & Jim Jim Breakfast show
    Ray Darcy
RAY FOLEY SHOW- what can I say- "love the show"
    Beat online if possible
6pm -(on way home from work) 2fm

It's interesting in the survey results that (with the exception of Phantom) the top choices are all predominately talk focussed during the day. Is music radio out of favour?

The saviour of Radio 1 ever morning which unfortunately I can't get in the car so then it's Newstalk with Ivan Yates. On the way home - Drivetime, Matt Cooper or LiveDrive if the traffic looks dodgy.

I listened to Tom Dunne talk for 8 minutes recently between 9:07 and 9:15am. No callers, no breaks just the voice of Tom Dunne for 8 minutes.

    He's some man.

When i'm not enjoying local radio, it's Newstalk or Spin South West i flick between. Depending on whether i need beats or banter for distraction.

Beat, Ray Darcy and Ray Foley. I hope we never meet. We would not be friends!!!!

I listen to Newstalk almost all of the time. If I were to listen to the radio mid-morning I'd probably take Pat Kenny over Tom Dunne and I switch between George Hook and Matt Cooper but Newstalk the vast majority of the time.

There's no real stations that play the music I like consitently so I just listen to my own music or a few specialist online stations.

The majority of Irish stations play awful music the majority of the time

There's no option for music/news

    Phantom for music.
Newstalk for news. (Except their morning show. Jaysus. I'll stick to Morning Ireland, thanks.)

I'm forced to listen to boring local radio at work:(, but when I can I like matt cooper on today fm and geoff llyods hometime show on absolute radio.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,470 ✭✭✭highlydebased

Today FM without fail. Sadly 2fm is not what it used to be- especially with no more Gerry etc :(

Spin southwest sometimes, but it gets a bit repeditive. I'd like Phantom down here..

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 9,139 ✭✭✭-Trek-

The problem with Spin south west is it is like a station where transition year students go to get work experience (spin talk....need I say any more).

I like to listen either Corks 96fm or Red Fm, they are the only stations I can listen to without resorting to the Internet or the IPod.

The local radio is Beat and that is f*cking woeful....

I would say it's Newstalk in the car and then at home it's always BBC Radio 1 or 2 either off Sky or Internet radio... puts any Irish drivel to shame.

combination of radio and internet. todayfm, BBC2, talksport, lbc (london talk station).
