    Hi Guys:

I am ignorant at this so would really appreciate some help.
I am looking at setting up a website, such as www.horticulture.ie
There are plenty of companies offering this. Also employees need own e-mail so for example david@horticulture.ie and reception@horticulture

    My concerns are:
1:how do you make these e-mail addresses
2: Are they limited. Gmail allows a certain amount of storage
3: how do you make the website and e-mails secure

    Thanks

1:how do you make these e-mail addresses
2: Are they limited. Gmail allows a certain amount of storage

This all depends on your host. Normally you will get a control panel that you log into, and you can set up your email addresses there.

The amount and mailbox size will depend on your host, but you can use Gmail to download your emails from that address, which will free up your mailbox size. The odds are that Gmail will give you more storage space than most hosts, and most likely more than you'll need for the foreseeable future.
3: how do you make the website and e-mails secure

Strong passwords on your control panel and FTP logins. Securing your website is a whole new topic. You would need to provide far more detail about the website to get any useful info.

    1. Once you register a domain you can create emails with your host once domain pointing. It's straight forward in most.

    2. If you use Pop you can remove them from server down locally, but what you leave on server will be limited about web space more than likely.

    3. Emails, you can use PGP or something. As for website more secure? - that is an impossible question to answer but some basic things: You should use crypic passwords and not dictionary words for FTP/Control panel. Be careful with file permissions on the server. Make sure any software you use, such as blogs/forums is up to date and security patches are up to date. If you are scripting it yourself, then you need to make sure you validate all input data etc etc.
