If your on social welfare can you get the btea when doing this course?

I think you have to be on a social welfare payment for 9 months or more to get the B.T.E.A, i could be wrong. www.welfare.ie should have the relevant info.

I emailed e.quinn@ucc.ie yesterday after seeing this, with no reply so far. It seems like a great opportunity. I'll grab some credit asap and ring the college- hopefully it won't be too late to apply.

Cheers for the heads up, pity I didn't see the thread earlier!

THE OECD HAS told the Irish government that its priority should be getting people back to work.
In its latest economic forecast, the body said there is a risk that high unemployment could become structural.
“In particular, workers previously employed in the construction sector should be encouraged to acquire the skills and competencies demanded by jobcreating sectors,” it added.

The Diploma in Applied Business Computing offers excellent opportunities for upskilling into a sector where jobs are plentiful.

Thanks, nothing free it seems, but it gives a good starting point for certain courses.
If anyone else knows of something similar perhaps they could reply,
Im also looking for suggestions, so I hope this is still the right place.

I'm also interested in courses also along the lines of solidworks, CAD, for drawing out potential projects (or open source versions but non open source where there might be access for training might be preferable) but also to model ideas to see if they work or what they would hold up to, to supplement me before Id do a course where such a thing isnt done in detail but where someone like me who had no background would get a bit of a head start.

Im also interested in something like doing matlab? i think it is used to do more mathematical modeling? Ive done a very little of it, but really I didnt know how it worked and I thought a tutorial in the use of matlab would have been more valuable instead, ended up just been given scripts to write out but having no real idea how to use it or develop my own ideas or implement it into a real world scenario or to use to model/prove/disprove some engineering problem.

IT sector is very strong at the moment. People start in all kinds of positions but we don't have data on their starting salaries. Some job titles of recent graduates include:

    Technical Support Engineer - EMC
IT Admin, It Global Command Center at EMC
    Technical Analyst at OpenText
    Supply Chain Analyst at EMC
Technical Officer at Film and Screen Media - UCC
Web Developer at Marine Applications Ltd
Technical and Customer Support at VoxPro

A lot of graduates progress to degree level also.
