Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Ya same as me. There's no point in me swapping the sim like tech support suggested. More waffle off them. I'll just sit and wait i guess there still tweaking....

yesterday was fine, either had 3-4 bars of 3g.....or 5 bars of "3" with NO GPRS.....

if i had GPRS i was knocked down to 3 bars.....

now it's acting the horse again!

oh how i wish i didnt wait till today to decide if im bringing it back or not, now i'm stuck with it for 18 months! :(

I have been told that if i still have problems that i need to log the call with tech by Sunday and return the handset to the 3 store where you purchased it. I don't believe this is just for me i would say it applies to all who purchased on that fateful night :)

GPRS gone here as well, hopefully they're still working on it.

My 3G is worse today than last few days. I had the "O" last night and again today but I cant connect to anything.

Interesting thread on 3 UK here. Seems like the problems we're having are in the UK too.

I have a horrible feeling 3 have no magic fix for these problems. I'd bet the farm we'll still be on this thread complaining about the exact same things at Christmas...

Also some interesting stuff on the 3 UK blogs here.

Is there an Irish 3 blog site?

Didn't steve jobs say if you were not happy with the phone you could bring it back within 30 days? I'm sure this would overrule anything 3 have said. Also thought 3 had extended their cooling off period.

  • Moderators, Music Moderators Posts: 3,752 Mod ✭✭✭✭eeloe

I doubt steve was talking about a 30day thing when dealing with an operator, i'd say that's just buying from AT&T in the states, and buying directly from the apple store else where!

I'm happy with the phone, i'm happy with the voice and txt service, and im happy with the prices....

If i just had a stable internet connection, i'd be over joyed!

    Much, much better today.

Switching to 3G actually happening without me having to go into carrier settings.

GPRS enabled, and working as well as EDGE did on o2 so far as I can see.

Finally have GPRS after a reset.

Obviously not super speeds but still delighted.

Again, people who need faster internet - try Opera as someone mentioned.

The hard work is done on their servers so much quicker then safari

Re : GPRS - should this coverage be everywhere (everywhere that you have voice and text at least??)

my 3g and gprs are intermittent in cork still

also, if you want an easy way around the proxy issues try Opera. All requests are sent to the Opera servers then to the internet and back again so the web filter employed by 3 doesn't work!

That's not correct. As long as you are on 3's service, their proxy/firewall will be in place. You have to go through that first same way that if you were on wifi you go through that wifi's router or firewall etc... before getting an external connection. Doesn't matter what browser you're using.

The 30 day trial thing that Jobs was on about has now been incorporated with 3. The phone refunds are handled directly by apple. All 3 stores received an email today at 1pm advising of this. If you want to return within the 30 days you need to contact your store of purchase, they will then advise of numbers etc to contact. It looks like it will be a joint effort as Apple give the phone refunds and 3 will obviously have to cancel the contracts.

Regarding the network changes they only started late yesterday and will continue through today and tomorrow. It is expected Sunday will deliver a stable service. There's no point doing network resets etc. until Sunday as things are being turned on and off continuously.

Incorrect. Just tried, the Opera App does indeed get around the proxy. You may be misunderstanding how the opera app works. What it does is it doesn't attempt to visit the site on your iPhone. It sends the request to the Opera servers, which grabs the site and compresses it. It then sends the data back to your iPhone. So, from Three's perspective, you just did a bit of data transfer with Opera's servers. So unless they block those, we are plain sailing.

Now, hopefully Opera update their app to look nice on the Retina display.

Thanks slasher. Correct and right! The Opera browser visits the Opera servers. I'm sure I mentioned that before ;)

Ah, I see. So it still goes through 3's proxy, just dresses up as a nice cuddly bear so the proxy lets the data go on its merry way.

See, you have to put it in terms I understand :D.

    Spoke to soon.

5 bars of 3G in Dublin CC, no download speeds (in fact, speedtest can't even retrieve a server list).

Is it a safe browser or whats the story with it? Is there an av product for the iphone? The dudes in tech support last week told me the proxy rules should be relaxed completely but not as of yet

What network changes are they doing ?? Is it just enabling GPRS or are they also fixing the switching issue as well ?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 446 ✭✭corklad32

God only knows but they'd better get sorted by Sunday or they'll be getting their nice shiny new iphone returned to them ......through the window  I'm getting no service on a number of occasions today so there definitely doing lots of changes. I was told Sunday anyway and at least we now have this 30 day fall back option which is a relief

anything re the 30 days available in writing?? i would be worried that it would stand for the iphone but not for the contract (i.e. you will be given another (i)phone)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 446 ✭✭corklad32

Nothing in writing but if you ring the 3 store on Patrick street they will be able to give you all the details. Its actually a 30 day money back guarantee so you will receive the money back - there's no way 3 would force you to stay in the contract as it's they who are providing the apple contact details. Give the lads in 3 store a shout - they can give all the details

[Visitor] are you unable to suppy me with the support i require?
    [Visitor] *supply
[Operator 1] Ideally setting up an Iphone 4 can be registering the Iphone 4. It might also been an issue to activate the Iphone 4, hence requesting you to call technical support.
[Visitor] i have activated the iphone 4. there was no issue. only with 3's consumer care. i have already been on the phone for 16mins today. i really do not have the time to repeat myself
[Visitor] can you please find someone who can help me whilst i am online please
[Operator 1] I would request you to call us on 1913 and speak to technical support as they can help you.
[Visitor] have you ignored my previous comment?
[Operator 1] I do understand your concern, however inorder to assist you further it would be better if you speak to technical support.
[Operator 1] If I get you correctly, you required the browser settings for your Iphone 4.
    [Visitor] yes please
[Operator 1] I will try to provide you the steps.
    [Visitor] thank you
[Visitor] it is the Mobile Data Network Settings on the iPhone 4
    [Operator 1] It's a 3 Iphone 4 that your are using with a 3 sim card.
[Visitor] MOBILE DATA SETTINGS APN USERNAME PASSWORD MMS SETTINGS APN username password mmsc mms proxy mms max message size mms ua prof url internet tethering apn username password
[Visitor] yes i am using a THREE (iPhone four) with a three sim card
    [Operator 1]
Allow me a minute, while i have that checked.

    [Visitor] OKAY
[Operator 1] I would request you to select Settings from Multi touch screen.
    [Visitor] done
    [Operator 1] APN :- 3ireland.ie
[Operator 1] User name and password should be blank.
[Visitor] is this in the mobile data section or mms section?
    [Operator 1] Mobile data Section.
    [Visitor] ok
    [Visitor] done
[Operator 1] Could you check whether its working or not.
    [Visitor] ok
    [Visitor] hold on
[Operator 1] Tethering should be off.

[Visitor] it is still not working
[Operator 1] Could you please move the Sleep/ Wake button at the right hand top and wait for 20 seconds.
[Operator 1] This will restart your Iphone 4
    [Visitor] ok
    [Visitor] hold on
    [Visitor] still no 3G
[Operator 1] Do you see any Icons on the Multi touch screen.
    [Visitor] do you mean youtube,contacts,etc?
[Operator 1] The very top of the Iphone 4 there would be some icons. Could you help me with the details.
    [Visitor] yes
[Visitor] what do you want to know?
[Visitor] i have asked you alreadya question and you have not answered me directly
[Operator 1] I'm not looking for youtube and contacts options.
[Operator 1] Do you see any icon which shows you 3g.
    [Visitor] no
[Operator 1] How many signal bars do you see.
[Visitor] just 5 bars, then the number 3
[Operator 1] Could you try manually doing a research?
    [Visitor] hold on
[Visitor] i have manually selected 3(3g)
    [Visitor] still nothing
[Operator 1] If you can try to check whether your able to access MY3 .
    [Visitor] i cannot
    [Visitor] i have already tried
[Operator 1] Since you are not able to access MY3, it indicates that your are in weak 3g signal.
    [Visitor] i am not
[Operator 1] Can you access planet 3 on your Iphone 4.
[Visitor] i own a vodafone 3g modem for my latop, full signal, no problem. my colleague is in the building with a new iPhone 4 on the o2 network. he has full 5 bars of signal and 3g access
[Visitor] do i need to terminate my contract with 3? i only bought the phone yesterday
[Visitor] i cannot access planet three
[Operator 1] I would request you to speak to our techinical support, they can try some more resetting the Iphone 4.
[Operator 1] I would like to let you know that now you are in a 2.5 g network, due to which you are not able to connect to Internet.
[Visitor] I have three questions, can you please answer all three : Q1. how do you know i am in a 2.5g network? Q2.How is my colleague able to connect to a 3g network on an iPhone 4? Q3. I thought 3 are launching 2g roaming today, whereby allowing customers to access the internet where 3g is not available. Is this an incorrect statement by three?
[Operator 1] Firstly you are not able to access Planet 3 which uses 2.5 G or 3G coverage. It might be a fault with the 3G network.
[Operator 1] Secondly your friend is using an O2 Iphone 4 so ideally he is latching on to his 3G network.
[Operator 1] Ideally we are coming up with a plan for 2g roaming soon. Customer would be latched on to a roaming provider for accessing the internet.
[Visitor] how do i go about getting a refund from three and cencelling my contract?
    [Visitor] *cancelling
[Operator 1] You will have to speak to your technical team on 1913 inorder to check the settings for the Iphone 4.
[Operator 1] If you still wish to cancel the contract, you can call us on 1913 and speak to our customer options team.
[Visitor] are you unable to tell me how to cancel the contract?
[Operator 1] You will have to speak to our customer options team on 1913.
    [Visitor] why?
[Operator 1] We wont be able to take an online cancellation request.
    [Visitor] ok
    [Visitor] one other question
[Visitor] who is the Head(in charge) of Three Consumer Care for Ireland?
[Operator 1] Lanna O'Reilly is the Head for Three Consumer Care for Ireland.

    [Visitor] thank you
[Operator 1] Is there anything else that I can help you with ?
[Visitor] no, you have tried your best. i will write to Lanna.
[Operator 1] Thank you for Contacting us, Good Bye.
    [Visitor] good bye

I've gone through cancelling already. You need to get the technical team to put a note on your account saying that there is a "verifiable network issue" (those exact words). Then when you go in-store, they will contact the store support call centre, who will see this note and authorise the refund. Without that note you will just be sent home for some more technical support. Argue argue argue and escalate as far as you can on the phone, they will eventually put that note on for you.

GPRS gone here all day, did a network reset and rebooted but nothing. Hopefully this is sorted soon.

  • Moderators, Music Moderators Posts: 3,752 Mod ✭✭✭✭eeloe

I haven't had GPRS all day here in Waterford.

My 3G is also at it's worst today, if I leave it for a few mins, the 3G knocks off and I'm bumped on to the '3' network with no data at all!
I then have to toggle airplane mode, 3G shows back up, but it isn't useable for 2-3 minutes, it's absolutely wrecking my head!

Still no GPRS for me. On a plus side signed up with 3 insurance so when I get to the stage of fooking the phone in the Lee because I've no data coverage at least I'm covered!! Go do it today it's free for 3 months at which point u can cancel as it's a rolling monthly contract!! So it really is costing ya nothin for 3 months and a lil piece of mind. ( unless I cancel before the 30 days)
