Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

I'm off to Cork for a week and will be based around Schull, are there any nice touring spins.

Ideally it would have some nice sights and maybe somehere to stop off for some lunch.

    Any help would be great....:)

you're heading to the right place for sights. (i'm from the city but the missus is from schull).

head west out to the mizen/barleycove via goleen. hugs the coast - beautiful. sheeps head as well - its all good. get some chocolates in gwens in schull - unreal. can't comment on lunch spots outside of schull - anyone who has done west cork 200 will be able to suggest some places.

Here are a few routes, the first is just a map showing how to get the the start of the road to climb Mt Gabriel , dont worry about figuring out which hill it is, you'll be able to see it from most places in West Cork:). Cycle this route and you will come across a left turn with a sign saying something like Irish Aviation Centre or the like. The road you will be on has pot holes every where, this left turn will take you onto a great surface but a killer climb with more hair pins than Lady GaGa(ask Signial_rabbit). Not sure if you looking for such a climb but once you reach the top, dismount and walk left around the station up to the trig point at the top (30 mts or so) and you pretty much have a 360 view of West Cork and into Kerry

This is a coast cycle down to Mizin head, up to Durras, down the next peninsula to Kilcrohane with a 2km climb and decend to Bantry, a few climbs after and your back to Skull

This is a cracking cycle taking in Glengarrif, the Healy pass, Kenmare and the tunnels back to Bantry and Skull

If you looking for views you have to visit Gougane Barra, this route will take you back through Kilgarvan and the tunnels again.

You can mix and match these routes, oh if you are into climbing you should take in the Priests Leap or Barley Lake (the map only shows the start of the climb, it goes to 290 metres)

    Enjoy
