Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Tyres!?!

    can someone help me out with this...

    I've an old bike at home that's being restored. It needs a new front wheel and pair of tyres.

    The old tyres say the size is "27x 1 1/4 x 1 1/8"
    Does that make sense to anyone?

    What type of tyres should I get for it? Idealy I'd like some white wall tyres so if anyone has any links that would be great!

    Also, if that was the tyre on the front wheel then what size wheel should I get? 27" or is that just too obvious??!

    Just get 28 (700c) wheels. It'll prolly be fine. What kind of old bike is it, a high nelly? Chances are its old and the 27's are steel and super heavy anyway..

    According to Sheldon, there is 8mm difference in BSD between 700c and 27" (27" are bigger).

    So whatever you pick, you must match the wheel and tyre size.

    I would guess that you can use a 700c wheel (and 700 tyre) on the bike, but would need to reposition the brake pads.

    27" tyres are still available, e.g. here.
