Any tips for the races?

Every year I'm asked for tips and the only answers I can think of are:

    1. Don't eat yellow snow!
    2. Get there early!

Anyone got any other tips for the races (real ones appreciated)?

Anything trained by Dermot Weld seems to do well every year. He always has a few winners. There are always short odds on them though.

Same with any horse ridden by Ruby Walshe. He always wins at least one race.

Follow the late money. Just before the off see whats being backed heavily and go with it. If you know nothing about racing you could do worse than this.

Not too sure about that. If it was that easy everybody would be doing it. And i know for definite that bookies sometimes create a false gamble on course to attract people.

At the big meetings its more reliable because it takes a lot more money to move the price. I've found that it tends to happen on certain days. Some days the late money is false and then other days 4/7 races late money is spot on. A;though I will admit that is true for british racing - couldn't say the same for Irish...which I guess is what the OP is on about.

Also, its a guide. If you know nothing about racing, like I said, you could do worse

With experience you know when to go with it and when not to.

The best tip for the Galway races is ... the number 9 bus!

The racecourse is number 5 on that map.

    ;)

I wouldnt back the gambles in Galway at all, its usually driven by the mug punters who follow money as Nulty eluded to.

Im gonna try and follow Weld this year, say it every year and dont, but i wont follow him blindly.

Lottery up there anyway, better off watching Goodwood in the Ladbrokes tent up there.

Watch races carefully from here to Galway - well handicapped horses who either win to get in to a race (EG Weld's 4yo yesterday sublime talent) or those that go for a little warm up on the flat. (EG was taken with Lethal Weapons run yesterday).

With weights decided on the big hurdle race already you have to be taken with horses like Bahrain Storm yesterday who is going for a repeat.

The plate trial was a different story with so many non triers it wasn't funny - the biggest one for me being gonebeyondrecall - I will be watching this one carefully in the betting. Although I think Truckers Tavern if it runs has the right profile for me.

Course specialists are good to follow as it is a tight undulating track and not one for a hold up horse - Tellelle was an eye catcher for me yesterday.

Overall it is a poor meeting - too many races, mostly handicaps and to compound matters the locals fleece you on prices. Reckon it will be the worst turn out in years this year.
