    Just moved into rented accomodation.

Theres a UPC modem and it works fine. Just wondering what would happen if we use it? Is there a way of knowing if its a fixed fee being charged to someone?

If I ring them, do you think they'll let us pay and then disconnect in December?

    Thanks

The previous tenants probably had an account with UPC and only rang them up to cancel shortly before they moved out. UPC requires a months notice when you cancel so it will probably be a month before it turns off.

UPC won't let you transfer the account into your name, even if you had the previous account holders permission unfortunately. Have you asked your landlord, perhaps the account is in her/his name? After that your only option is to sign up for a new account, I believe there shortest term is 9 months (intended for students) and there is a €100 early termination fee.
