Ran an adjusted 33:00 flat for the five mile (32:25 for 4.89 miles - new PB over the distance ) so hoping to translate that to a sub 70 minute 10 mile...

Pretty sure last year was twice round the hills all right, so this time it's like the 5 mile with 5 flat miles added on at the start. I might need to get to 5 in 29:40 or 29:30 and keep going for another 5 - a tall order but well worth a shot.
I might have to let you do the recce on your own - I kept up with you for all of 100m last Sat and I've a feeling that was a conservative start from you. (not sure if conservative is even in your vocabulary!)

I want to finish it without having to stop or walk or die - thought about putting down 99:59 (and in my head thats what I'd love to do) but Im still very slow and my longest run so far was 6 miles so my main aim is just to finish it and 105:00 is acheivable in my head.

Stab in the dark, Im doing this race to see where I stand. Every race Ive done so far this year Ive run pre-exhausted, havent tapered or trained down for any of them, just used them as speed sessions. So Im gonna rest up for this one, prepare properly and see where Im at. Could be wildly optimistic with the target but what the hell, I'll give it a go.

I assume there will be staggered starts like at the 5 miler? Anyone know how they'll be broken up?

Yes, there will be. If they're the same as last year the different zones will be:

• Sub 70
• 70+
• 80+
• 90+

How much of a gap was there between the starts last year (or at this year's 5 mile)? Was there much distance between the back of one wave and the front of the next?

There should deffo be a sub 60 pen. Sub 70 is 2 high, it will be jamm packed.

Of over 4400 finishers last year, there were about 50 finishing sub 60.
The sub 70 pen is already less than 10% of the field.

While the finishers of the sub 60 might be that small, if they had a pen for it, i bet you'ld have a few hundred inside it at the start.

The same figures will apply for the under 70, there'll be alot more in it at the start than the number who will actually run the time. People don't be realistic concerning the time they can run, so the race series should do the following:

The MC should spend more time telling people to get in the right wave then trying to be funny for the crowd
Have people with loud hailers every 30 yards telling people to get in the right wave as with 5,000 people starting, most people won't be able to hear the MC
And anyone would comes late and jumps into a wave because its nearest to the start should be hauled out by stewards and sent to the back

The second point is the most important. I did the Liberties 6.5k last week and they announced at the start with a loud hailer for runners to come to the front and run/walkers, joggers and walkers to move back and people did. The same happened at the Leixlip 5k so why can't the race series do it.

It costs nothing and no one can claim that they didn't know when a faster runner bawls them out of it.

Going to jog around this, to get back some running fitness and get rid of some of the excesses from holidays (back the thursday before). Have only run once in a month but not too worried.

Ok i'm in for this now, not idea how long this is going to take now but will go out at around the 8 min mark and either get faster or slower as it goes on. Would like to go sub 80 but not sure if i've enough miles in the legs just yet.

Does a gap open up between the back of one wave and the start of the next? Or do they remove the separating barrier before the race starts?

At the five miler the race stewards walked at the front of each wave, to allow a gap form and then stepped aside once the wave came to the start line.

Sub 85 mins is wave 1? Thats going to have a load of people would have though there would be a 70 or 75 min wave..

Yes, strange that they'd change it so much from last year.
I think I'll join the very beginning of the 85+ wave, so I'll have some space to run for a few minutes at least.

Yep that may not be a bad idea might do the same myself , but maybe looking at an 80-82 min time so not too sure now.

Anyone having difficulty registering online for the 10 and the half?
I keep getting to the last step (credit card details) and it doesn't submit for me and makes me want to input me details again, I did it twice and have now given up...

Try it on another PC. I had the same problem but went to an internet cafe and it went through no problem. If that doesnt work sent Hardwroker a PM.
