Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

So, there's less than three weeks to go. Anybody nervous yet? Anybody else nervous yet?
My legs were so tired on Saturday - I spent 85 minutes shuffling around D4, down along the Strand. Plus I missed a session yesterday. Unfortunately, I just couldn't make it to my run on time - I had an urgent appointment with a tasty cake. Oh, the guilt! The delcious, crumbly guilt!

I am nervous for a number of reasons
I still can't register online but have a number for somebody to call tomorrow
Hopefully they can register me because whatever chance I have at home is nil when faced with the firewalls at work- boards.ie is currently unavailable.....
I am also nervous because the most I have ever run is 12km (last Sat) so I'm hoping the distance will be okay. I will do 14 this Friday and that will hopefully put me in a position to triumphantly run 16 on the Sat before the race meaning that I will have done it once.
I like cake too so am now nervous that I will a lot of it between now and the race...

I'm only a beginner runner, and a slow one at that! Did the 5 mile the other week (52 mins), my first running event! Now the most I've ever run is 6 miles. Gonna try a 7 mile run this week.

What are the chances I'll be able to do the 10 mile in just over 2 weeks time? Be honest with me folks!!

Do 7 (and a bit?) this weekend, 8 (and a half?) next weekend, you'll be fine. Just go out slow and easy, don't get carried away by the race atmosphere. The second half of the course is harder, so leave plenty in reserve.

(I did my first 5 mile race in January, the longest I'd run before was 4 miles. The excitement of the day can carry you through an extra couple of miles)

I'd say very high assuming you don't take off like a rocket. If you can run 6 miles relatively comfortably than 10 isn't a major jump. Get the 7 in this week a few shorter runs, rest up a few days before the 10 miler and you'll be laughing.

Will they post numbers to addresses inside Dublin?
Pick up is this weekend and I'm in Cork at a wedding

In my opinion if you do 8miles this weekend and 8 next weekend and dont go out to fast you"ll have no bother whatsoever. Best of luck and enjoy the buzz.:)

Can somebody tell me what the differences between the "chip time" and "finish time" are in the results for this race series.

    Thanks

I'm out  Just back from physio and have shin splints, he advised me that if I want to do (well) on the half in September I should give the 10mi a miss. Very disappointed...

Can somebody tell me what the differences between the "chip time" and "finish time" are in the results for this race series.

When the race starts, they blow a horn and they start the clock at the finish line. The time on that clock when you cross the finish line is your finish time.

However, unless you're right at the front of the race (and you shouldn't be), you're not going to cross the start line when they blow the horn. It will take you a few minutes to get to the start line and cross it. Your number has a chip on the back that registers when you cross the start line, and again when you cross the finish line. So your chip time is the time is takes you to get from the start to the finish.

    Great thanks,
So my chip time is what I ran the 5 miles in.

Exactly. So you don't need to worry about getting close to the front, your chip is going to record your time.

im glad to see im not the only one whos first 10 mile this is. My longest run is 8.5 miles, finished in just under 100mins. problem is, im on holidays as of tomorrow, and will likely not do any serious distances between now and the race. so, er, fingers crossed

Just to confirm that race numbers are to be posted out to everyone outside Dublin? Not around this weekend so can't collect it in Blanchardstown.

    Hi all

Registered for the race series a while ago, and before the 5 mile I got an email with the 5 Mile Acceptance Slip to go and pick up my number for the race.

But I have not received any email for picking up my number for the 10 mile.

    Should I have received one?

    Cheers

Asked exactly the same question earlier. I'm in the same boat too. Do we keep the same number?

I cant make it to collect the numbers. Will they be automatically posted out to anybody who has not collected them or whats the story?

    I am living in Dublin.

I'm in the same situation. Getting out to Blanchardstown would be a massive pain in the hole for me; I presume they'll send us all out the numbers if we don't collect them.

EDIT: In fact, I just called their office, and any of the numbers not picked up at the weekend will be sent out next week. Problem solved.

I think the number collection is early so that uncollected numbers can be posted.

Good news for anybody (like me) who entered this race thinking it incorporated the Dublin championships. After initially being told it didn't this year, now it seems it does now

Better late than never but this info just went on the Dublin athletics website today and as far as I know entries have closed for this race (August 4th) so not worth my while rallying the troops !

It's good to see the Dublin 10 championship will be incorporated into the Frank Duffy this year, even if the notice is a bit late. It just leaves the door open for more post race registration of teams, which will just slow down the results coming out. I've emailed the dublin board regarding the 2009 team medals, we'll see what happens.

    I saw the t-shirt - it is a
    purple
    colour.

Aside: Being pedantic, the info sheet appears to have a small mistake wrt the water station. The text says "There will be a water station on the course - at the Military Road near the Chapelizod entrance - which you will pass twice." We only pass that location once. Obviously pictures are better than words I see 2 water stations, at 3 miles and 7 miles.

Noticed that. Must be from last year.
Was surprised at the amount of people at 11 this morning collecting their numbers. Alot of people don't trust the post:)

I canr beleive they post them out if you dont show up...if only I had known...I drove SO FAST back from Clare that I am sure I must have gotten penalty points...and all because I was trying to get to Blanch before 6pm...for crying out loud whats the point in dragging us all out there...why dont they post them all out??

I can only assume that it's to promote the Adidas gait analysis thing whilst you're there.....As an aside, I collected my number at about 12.30 on the Saturday and was struck by how many thin, tanned people were around the car park !!

I've gone for 62 as being half way between Mr McMillians predictions based on my most recent 10km and 1/2 times. Think I would actually be a bit annoyed with that though and being so close to 59:59, but think that would be a step too far with my current level of laziness. We'll see though.

The Race Series web page says that they do post them out to non-Dublin addresses:
We will POST out numbers about 10 days before each event to all entries out side of Dublin
I agree that it is unclear what is done for Dublin entrants who do not collect their number, though my 5 mile race pack was posted out to my Dublin address as I was not in Dublin on the number collection weekend. I had emailed them beforehand to clarify.

I ran the full course yesterday and it seems like the upper glen road will be the toughest section as it was in the 5 miler. Save something for this part or you will die a death is my advice.
