Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

The Race Series web page says that they do post them out to non-Dublin addresses: I agree that it is unclear what is done for Dublin entrants who do not collect their number, though my 5 mile race pack was posted out to my Dublin address as I was not in Dublin on the number collection weekend. I had emailed them beforehand to clarify.

Mine came in the mail this morning (in Dublin)

I ran the full course yesterday and it seems like the upper glen road will be the toughest section as it was in the 5 miler. Save something for this part or you will die a death is my advice.

That's just around the 8 mile mark is it? Thanks for that, there's no way I would have been retaining energy for the last 2 miles off my own back!!

Yep, at about 7.5 or 8 miles. The easiest way to think of the course is a reasonably flat first 5 miles followed by the same course as the "5" mile race last month. So if you found those hills tough then it's worth holding back a little over the first easy 5 miles - or if you're a sucker for punishment (like me), give it a go for the first 5, make the most of the downhill along the Khyber, kick on up the first hill, kick on even more on the second hill and then hang on for the last mile before sprinting to the finish :D (1st tactic = sensible, 2nd tactic = fun!)

Hate to burst your bubble but we're not running down they kyber. Straight back down Chesterfield Ave and then down Wellington Road like the old route.

Coulda sworn the maps of the 10 mile route posted earlier in the year were down the Kyber... Ah well, doesn't really change the race plan ;)

Got my number in the post this morning. Not sure how this'll go. I haven't run a road race since last the half-M last Sept when I was at my best ever and did the first 10 in just under 67. Won't do that this time but anything under 75 and it's a PB for a 10 mile race :)

just checking the times of people I know, it'd be nice to beat figs at least - he pipped me in all of the adidas races last year :) Last year's time was 70:47 after a disgraceful blow up on mile 8

8th mile was tough. I paced a mate sub 70 and passed you at 8.5. Then when I paced DCM i passed you at 21 ?? Maybe change your tactics ?? and finish strong.....Its easy to race past people as they are feiced. But you keep going.

Does anyone know if the mile markers on the day will be accurate? Looking at the map that they provide on the website, its way off.
Was it accurate for the 5 miles in July?

Not very experienced runner and won't really know what pace I'm running if the markers aren't correct as I don't have a GPS watch or anything.
    Thanks.

bit of a touchy subject :D
The mile markers were accurate at the 5 mile race, but the start line wasn't. If the start line had been in the right place, it would have been exactly one mile to the first mile marker, and a mile between each one.

I rarely see them when I'm running anyway...

err... from what I saw from your training sessions in Santry Demense, I reckon you could be showered and changed by the time I get to the finish this year! :D

    Thanks.

I ran the route today and the markers look fairly spot on, according to my garmin anyway.

There were markers on the route? I ran most of it between 4:15 and 5:15 and didn't see any mile markers. It was very hot out there today - the shade of trees was very welcome.

Maybe you should give them an e-mail them at raceseries@dublinmarathon.ie.

It's quite the early start for you (6:35 or 6:55 train presumably)!
Any friends in Dublin with whom you could stay with on Friday night?

Finished 5 miler very comfortably with 36.12. Doubling that + adding 10 mins for distance. This is a confident guess/estimate.

I ran a little bit of the course on the road last week; 8 and 9 miles were clearly marked in yellow paint at the edge of the road. I didn't check but they were about where I'd expect them to be.

Ryans went down well last time (that said, chapelizod would be handier for me too nowadays). Shall we just form a big Boards AC gang behind the finish line as usual and go from there?

Might be able ton squeeze one in but meeting friends at 1:00, see Ye guys at the finish line anyway, if Ye haven't all left at that stage. :D

finished the 4.9 Miler in 37.12. So I'd like to thin I could make it around in 80 mins but thinking rationally I think 85 would be my best bet. Will be go out steady until halfWay and then see how I feel and will try to ramp it up a bit then. That's the plan anyway.
Best of luck to everybody else

Not sure how I'll fair this weekend, bad preparations the last while due to work etc. Did the short 5 miler in 40.40, so doubling it and adding 5 I guess would be my goal. Have only done a 7 mile run once about 9days ago but whatever I do as long as I get around. I can treat it as my LSR in prep for DCM. good luck to all on Sat

Need to do 16 miles this weekend as part of my marathon training. Hopefully should be finished the Adidas 10 miler in and around the hour mark (59 mins to 1 hr 3 id say). Anyone fancy 6 miles at 7 45 to 7 50 pace straight after?

Revised target after a week relaxing and drinking in the sun, still should be a sizable PB though.

*Warning to anyone going to the park via the N4 from the west to stay on the main road and avoid Chapelizod (Bridge roadworks), traffic was so bad I had to divert over by the kip that is Ballyfermot last night, was happy to emerge from there without any bother....

    Howareya folks,

Just looking for advice on a target time.
I did the Irish Runner 4.9mile race in 32:46.

The Frank Duffy 10mile this weekend will be the longest distance I have raced competitively. Previous to this the longest distance I have done, again competitively, was 10k in 43:44minutes (April 2009).

Do any of you guys think a time of sub 70 is achievable or too ambitious for myself?

Depends on your training in the interim? Have you never ran more than 10k?

    Careful now. :pac:

We went down to the park with the dogs and got stuck in this though. It's been like that a couple of weeks now and I've never actually seen anyone working there.

    Sure have.
I have been following the hal higdon intermediate marathon training programme for the last few weeks so my lsr runs range from 12-17 as needed. mid week shorter runs don't go as far as 10 but regularly do two 8 miles or two 9 miles twice a week as well.

Slight over reaction on my part :), was the first time I acually went through Ballyer, found it to have a lot more about it than areas it's grouped with in fairness.

    As for Chapelizod bridge.......

Does anyone know if it will be possible to get parking in the Park itself? Not living in Dublin so public transport is not really an option.

    thanks...

I parked on Chesterfield avenue the last day - but most of it is included in the 10 mile route now. I'd like some info on this too please!
