Today the ECL is pleased to confirm that Capcom, world leading publisher and developer of video games, will be partnering up with the European Console League. Capcom will also kindly be providing additional prizes which we will announce shortly.

Ben Woodward of the European Console League commented:

"We're thrilled to announce our partnership with Capcom. With Super Street Fighter 4 being one of our flagship games it's reassuring to know the actual games developer is behind our project."

Adam Merrett of Capcom issued the following statement:

“Capcom Europe are pleased to be partnering with the ECL, their heritage in competitive eSports is unrivalled throughout Europe. Our attendance to ECL Liverpool provides the ideal platform to showcase Super Street Fighter IV”

The ECL is also delighted to announce that through joining forces with Capcom, we will now be opening up the Super Street Fighter 4 tournament for free to all participants who have purchased tickets that cover their entry over the Saturday. This includes all major tournament tickets, 3-day Spectator tickets and Saturday 1-day Spectator tickets. That’s right, even if you’re playing in another tournament, you are welcome to participate in the tournament as well! The Super Street Fighter 4 tournament is scheduled to occur on Saturday only. Sign ups will take place at the event itself on the Friday and Saturday. The structure will be as follows:

SSF4 Ticket purchasers before the event will be automatically signed up to the tournament on Saturday. The SSF4 ticket will act as a 1-day Spectator at a cost of £10, with the tournament entry being for free. Entry to Friday and Sunday requires the relevant additional spectator passes.

Anyone with any other ticket, including tournaments for other games but excluding the 1-day Friday and 1-day Sunday options will have the chance to sign up for free to the SSF4 tournament on Friday and Saturday morning. In order to ensure the smooth running of the tournament, there will be a player cap, so for anyone already entering another game be sure to listen out for the sign up phase on the Friday evening and Saturday morning of the event.

It will follow a Group Stage followed by a Double Elimination bracket

Anyone who is participating in another tournament at the time that their SSF4 match is due to take place will have 5 minutes to get to their SSF4 station. Should this not be possible due to another tournament commitment, they will face automatic disqualification. As SSF4 matches are a lot quicker than matches from other tournaments, we will allow for as much flexibility and leeway as possible. The majority of the SSF4 group matches will take place during an intermission of the other tournaments to ensure players can participate in their first round.

The Prizing Structure will now take the following shape:

    1st - £1200 2nd - £550 3rd - £300 4th - £250 5th - £50 6th - £50 7th - £50 8th - £50
One lucky player that signs up but does not make it to the final 8 will be randomly selected to receive a prize. The only requirement to be entitled to this chance is that you play in at least the first round of your group stage.

The European Console League would like to thank Capcom for showing their support and we are delighted to be able to make this possible. Good luck to everyone involved!

That is really cool. The prize cash is quite high so no doubt there'll be a few high quality players.

    Nice find!

    Pity it's in eleven days.

Isn't this the event that Chunkis is helping to run?
    Should be a good show!

Ryan Hart took it. I'm surprised that no one other than Chunkis traveled for this. Even with their late announcement of their partnership with Capcom to lower the initial ridiculous entry fee, flights to Liverpool were relatively cheap and any half-decent player would have jumped at this for the good entry/prize-money.

    Bracket

That's the winner's final, not the grand final. Not shocking that Ryan won though.

It wasn't advertised as the Grand Finals. If you want the Grand Finals, half-way mark: stream (IE & Firefox only).

Right, was just wondering why you said "Ryan Hart took it" and then posted a match that wasn't the finals which involved Ryan Hart

    1) On an international scale we're not that good- yet and
    2) Time and money are limitations I would guess for even the best of us :)

Chunkis was updating in IRC during it, sounds like it was a fun tournament.

I see they made both players wear headphones so as not to hear the commentators. That's a good way of going about it, i'm sure sisko will be interested.
