Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

My initial inclination was that Contador was right to take advantage, but Kelly's opinion has swayed me somewhat.

Good save Voeckler, rear wheel slid out on a tight corner! Good balance to keep it up.

In Safari? There's a circle ending in an arrow on the rhs of the address bar - just press that.

+1, Should have waited for Andy IMO. He's going to win the tour anyway, might aswell do it properly and respectfully

not for a mechanical for me anyway if he'd punctured should they all stop ?

great win for voeckler doing the french champions jersey proud there

i'm sure schleck will do a lot of complaining though

    Disgraceful.

  • Registered Users Posts: 65 ✭✭DrGroove

I think he had the chance to be sporting - but Alberto Contrador missed it  and with that the little Pistelero took the yellow jersey - which really makes me hope that Andy kills him tomorrow and the next day in the mountains.

Great ride Andy, chapeau! At least it happened before Tourmalet rather than on the TT (which let's face it would have happened), now we can have an interesting few days.

wrong i have no problem when a group is at the front containing all the leaders (as in armstrong waiting for ullrich fro instance) but when theres ridersa in front and behind you cant sit and wait

stephen roche - its part of the race

Would Schleck have stopped the attack if Bertie had dropped his own chain whilst responding? Sincerely doubt it. Bertie was right to continue - Schleck started it, lost a chain, tough tittie.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,504 ✭✭✭✭DirkVoodoo

Nobody stopped for me when I dropped a chain in that club race. Maybe I should wear my yellow jersey from now on.

  • Registered Users Posts: 516 ✭✭✭corkandproud

Looking at the screen but no volume, it looks like they are blaming Andy for crosschaining, how close am I?

    Yes, pretty good going!

Kelly seems to suggest that Contador wouldn't have attacked if he was feeling confident. Suggests that AC isn't as strong as he can be and therefore took an easy opportunity.

Of course Contador should've gone with any breaks after Schleck messed up but should he have led it?

Ha, ha, is that what a top end SRAM grouppo will do under pressure

Sounds like an equipment problem. Andy should ditch that unreliable Specialized and get one of whatever Albert is riding.

    Oh, wait...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,172 ✭✭✭✭kmart6

Seems a bit petty Roche giving out they shoulda waited for Nicolas if they waited for Andy!

    17th - 12' 34" down.

    Sorry that's overall.

    37th on the stage.

Lots of boos and AC seemed almost embarrassed. Didn't exactly celebrate taking the lead of the World's great cycling race.

Lost a fair bit of time - 7' 52" down on the winner.

Didn't see the Schlek incident - was it much different to say Ulrich waiting for Armstrong back in 2003?

Thought it a bit of a disgrace that Roche's team mate did not drop back to help him get back up. Forget his name

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,494 ✭✭✭Columbia

I'm not going to say Contador should have done this or should have done that, but he will know where he was yesterday, and he'll know why he is where he is now. I have been a fan of Contador and the Schlecks since they came on the scene, but I hope he gives us a reason to unequivocally accept him as this year's champion, because he hasn't done it so far.

He quite clearly jumped past Schleck - he was a few bike lengths behind and wasn't really responding to schleck's attack.

I don't get it, either way he should have waited. Just because Schleck attacks, he's fair game? That makes no sense, tbh. None of the greats like Merckx, Indurain, The badger, would have jumped on a rider's misfortune like that. Never.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,006 ✭✭✭Moflojo

This is a tough one to call.

On the one hand I can understand the idea that a mechanical is in some way one's own fault and tough titty. If a mountain goat or stray dog had knocked Schleck off the bike then I would absolutely agree that Contador should have waited for him.

On the other hand, Contador has not proved that he is a better rider than Schleck, only that he is luckier. And by taking advantage of the misfortune the way he did could be seen as exploitative and, I guess, unsportsmanlike.

I'm leaning towards the latter approach.

Agreed, can we have a poll?

Bad form by AC, of course he should have continued but he shouldn't have attacked (imo)

If you look at it again Contador attacks when he see Andy has stopped. Attacks hard then easies up slightly but not much. Knew well what he was at.

He did attack. Whether it was right or wrong is another issue. either way he went for it and got his yellow
