there's a 1TB external HD in aldi this thursday for €90

comes with USB and eSATA connections. probably not powered through through the USB connection though. it seems good value anyway.

it really depends on what you want to use it for. are you going to be leaving it in one place or bringing it around with you? the brand i'd go with would be Western Digital. i think they're the best hard drives around but others prefer Seagate.

thanks for the tip, I'm not really a fan of buying electronics in Aldi/lidl though, have heard too many stories about them being sub quality/breaking.

I'm really looking for something as a back up to all the music i have on my laptop, not for playing movies or anything. I'd be rarely bringing it anywhere, but a smaller one would be handy.

I bought the 500gb medion harddrive out of aldi last week, was grand for 65 euro, 1 year warranty and its going fine, have put over 150gb's of music on it and not a problem, has good reviews on the net aswell!
