no holiday pay this year but on salary

have been working full time with this company for nearly 2 years now...business is very bad and after booking holidays have been told i have to take them without pay - gutted i now wont be going and have lost my flight...
what do you think? nothing surprises me now in the midst of what i think is the worsening recession..

I suppose it's like a temporary pay cut really... just bad managment not to tell you in advance so you could still plan a holiday of some sorts..

If they had have phrased it as a paycut, that's one thing.
But you are legally entitled to paid holidays!

this is illegal each full time employee is entitled to 20 days paid holidays per year

i am a shop steward for siptu in my work place and with your boss telling you that you can take holidays but with out pay is illegal if you are working full time in a company then you are intilted to 20 paid hoildays per calendar year here is a link to where you would get more information

i hate when companys and bosses use the rescission as an excuse to try and cut wages cut holidays cut redundancy payments and in general chance there arm and then tell workers that if you not happy you know where the gate is
