Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

This thread is for random pictures of random things in random places by random people - so basically this is the place for random photographs. The photographs should be your own work; when we say random, we mean that there's no set theme, and no provision for C&C, for example.

Welcome newbies... Always great to see you moving away from lurking to taking part - we won't bite (eh... too often).

No expectation of quality or content. It's for everyone. This thread exists because it is good to share Please familiarise yourself with the rules before posting.

A little discussion is allowed but don't enter into debate as the thread is intended mainly to show photographs.

Thread rules [Please Read] NB - IMPORTANT STUFF NEXT

    * General Charter Rules Apply

    * All images must be 800 pixels or less on the longest side. Any posts with images which break this rule will be deleted.

    * No Quoting Images - Please don't include the original picture in your reply to a post.

    * Making your picture a link to the page it's hosted on flickr or pix.ie or elsewhere is both handy for us nosy lot to find the rest of your stuff, and also generally considered the polite thing to do by the image host. Indeed for some including pix.ie and flickr, it is a condition of using their service.

    * No arguments. Self explanatory really.

    * If you have a disagreement with a photo, use the report post feature - don't go abusing the poster.

    * Try keep to one or two images per post. Then allow some more people to post, then feel free to post again. Do this as often as you like!

The most important rule: Enjoy and have fun.

If you find yourself on the wrong side of these rules, prepare yourself for your post to be deleted, or if you've been feicing around repeatedly, prepare yourself for break from the forum.

If you do actually read this then please hit the thanks button - not that i'm so vain as to want a post of mine thanked - but as a little social experiment as to who actually reads the opening post on the thread, heheheh....

    Thank you.

    Now off with ya!

I went to see Bret Easton Ellis at the Galway Arts festival yesterday. Given I'm used to concert photography I thought there was no need to be bogged down with a heavier 24-70mm lens with a higher aperture, so I just brought the kit lens which I've not used in years, assuming the hotel would be lit well - and it was. However after he started speaking the lights were turned down and the kit lens without flash meant I had to really boost the ISO. Very annoying.

I had a play with some smoke photography. I quite like some of the results.

Very good - I wonder if these could be used as Rorschach Ink Blot tests, and does it mean anything that it makes me think of an X-ray of a pelvis.

Ha - yeah that was the first thing I saw. But now I see two seahorse type creatures meeting.

I will pop them up at home later. I haven't thought much about B&W before - Is it enough to just drag the saturation slider to the left, or is there more to converting them than that?

Heh heh well you can of course do that teh results will be limited at best, you will invariably require adjustments, and not to be flippant there are literally volumes written on conversions..... depending on what you use ... heres a link that will give you a bit of insight

Ha - Well I probably won't be 'popping them up at home later' by the looks of it. I'll take my time and have a read of that stuff. It should be a good learning excercise.

An amazing day two weeks ago. Out taking shots of one of my favourite models. Pretty tough to shoot this guy, anytime you're on the ground he wants to know what you're looking at, so comes careering at you as fast as he can.
