Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

So how do you go about adjusting power?

I'll be interested to hear how these work out too since I want to get my hands on more flashes for doing strobist stuff.

It actually looks as though it has no adjustments whatsoever, unless that's a thyristor on the front, but it's probably the sensor for its slave mode. So looks like it's time to start fiddling with your aperture (ooer)

    Looks interesting enough.

I've a question though, would it only be useful at certain shutter speeds? Don't know anything about this kinda stuff, so I'm thinking, if this fires at the same time as my camera/hotshoe flash/gun, then wouldn't the shutter be closed again by the time this goes off?

I know it'd fire fairly quickly after your flash goes off, but shutter speeds tend to be quite quick when using flash...

Also... If you're using the built-in flash, and it starts "strobing" as you focus, will this thing be firing off everytime the camera's flash does, too?

Quite interested in picking it up. Works out at about €13, which is pretty good, but would be curious about the above.

    Cheers

Shutter speeds tend to be comparatively SLOW when using flash. Typically a camera can't shoot faster than say 1/250 when using a third party flash like this, as that's the fastest speed at which the shutter is completely open. Strobes designed specifically for particular makes of cameras have a variety of tricks to get round this, some more successful than others.

This claims to be able to detect pre-flashes if I read the instructions correctly, or at least red-eye reduction, or if not you can fire your on-camera flash in manual mode, and not pre-flash I guess.

For €13 you could certainly do worse than this, but I wouldn't rely on it if you need any control over the output or fast recycling or anything.

Will pick it up just as something to play with, so. For €13 it can't be too bad. If it works at all, I'll be happy

Gah! they have a very similar blower I paid €12 for in Gunns, for under $4 on there!

Would this be any way decent?:

Much better, at least you have control over it.

But for 40 I'd rather go up between 20-40 and get a vivitar 285.
