    Chaohusaurus?

Nope, but you have the right time period and are close in terms of geographical location.

The mystery beastie is about twice the size of your guess.

Yeah once I saw the picture, there were not an awful lot of choices that would be similar.

    Ok my next one.

Should be a lot easier than some of my other ones.

OK this is not quite what it seems.:)

Hmm your comment suggests that it is not a true sabre tooth cat, but a certain marsupial which looked like a sabre tooth cat and was driven to extinction by the likes of Smilodon ;)

Thylacosmilus.... trying to sneak a marsupial off as a cat! :p

<<<< hides after the deliberate attempt to pass off a Marsupial as a North American beastie.

    Edaphosaurus?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,551 ✭✭✭Rubecula

it does look like that and you got there first. If it is a wrong answer, thaen I dunno what else it could be.

It is a mammal like reptile similar to Dimetrodon, and it is not that.

    has to be edaphosaurus.

Although its not a great artists rendition, I came to that conclusion due to the short tail, and it looks like its being portrayed as a herbivore.

The only animal I know that fits that bill would be Edaphosaurus.

However, I'm just about to leave work - so if it is Edaphosaurus or Dimetrodon - you can pick the next picture!

I'm trying to guess if it is a Synapsid or a Temnospondyl.

Have a feeling it may fall under the latter heading but that may be beacuse the head in the drawing reminds me of a frog somewhat.

Only problem is my knowledge of Temnospondyls is not great, despite the fact that one with a big fin should stand out. :D But I am pretty sure that it is not a reptile, and is an amphibian.

Very kind of you. Hopefully you will be able to do it yourself though.

LOL Kess, a frog with a fin. (ROFL at the thought)

Nope its neither. But it often gets confused with synapsids like Dimetrodon.

But its not a reptile, or a mammal! ;)
