    struthiomimus?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 30,746 ✭✭✭✭Galvasean

    Nope. Much smaller.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,551 ✭✭✭Rubecula

I thought perhaps Pelecanimimus but if I am not mistaken that had a mouthful of teeth.

It is related though isn't it?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 30,746 ✭✭✭✭Galvasean

Not closely.... It is considered a theropod. Although some have argued that it is a type of bird.

It has got me stumped then Galvasean, I think I need the help of my good friend Google on this one:D

I will let others try before I have a go that way though.

    Clue:
    Nike%20coupons.jpg

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,551 ✭✭✭Rubecula

You can't fool me, that is never a Puma:D:D:D

Only thing I can think of without resorting to the Google thing is Gallimimus. But that is too big. And I can't see how it fits in with the clue, unless you mean I need to wear them to run away from it...:D

Tomorrow, if nobody gets it I will try Googling. As for now it is past my bed time.

Nike is a clue as it is part of the creature's name.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,551 ✭✭✭Rubecula

Fairly sure it is descended from Procompsognathus But I can not narrow it down.

It may just be me being thick, but this is a toughy. Unless you mean Deinonychus.

    Die-no-NIKE-us????

LOL sneaky clue, but a good one. I would not have thought of that unless I hadn't said it out loud.

I hope I am right, and in case I am and I can't get back too soon I am leaving you with one to play with.

Nothronychus, one of my faves :)

You were incorrect though. However your asessment of my clue was spot on. It's name does include "nike-us", however it is spelt 'nykus' instead of 'nychus' as it's name already belonged to a type of beetle so the spelling was changed.
    You're red hot!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,551 ✭✭✭Rubecula

    red hot? :D

I think not as I still don't know the answer, even with the help of Google.

Mind you I am an engineer not a paleontologist, so maybe I am not so bad;)

I will keep on trying, although I suspect one of your other folks will get the answer before I do.

I have just had a sudden thought. probably way off course, but a name I seem to remember, not even sure it is a real name.

    Mononykus?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 30,746 ✭✭✭✭Galvasean

Spot on! You pick one now :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,551 ✭✭✭Rubecula

I found this while I was searching through for that last one. Not one I am familiar with myself and the picture leaves a bit to be desired, but see what you can do with it.

    Hesperonychus%20elizabethae.jpg250px-Hesperonychus_BW.jpg

The second picture is meant to be the same creature, and NO it is not a chicken:D

Hesperonychus (thereis a report on it's discovery in this forum).

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,551 ✭✭✭Rubecula

I bet you thought I would say Smilodon:D

However I am guessing it is a lesser known sabre tooth.

Homotherium is the only one that I can think of just now..... but I am not too sure.

so.. Homotherium crenatides. (excuse the poor spelling)

So tell me am I right (leaping up and down with excitement):D

I don't know where I pulled that one from LOL

    Try this oddity.

    Homo Sapien? :P

Ah no, thats Rugops primus. I couldn't think of the name, but I remember an article a few years ago with that picture about it and Africa splitting earlier than other continents, so I googled that.

I can't think of a good one that hasn't been said already, so anyone who feels like it can put up another.
