    Hi,

Apologies if this is the wrong place or if I'm not allowed to discuss it.

I'm thinking about attempting setting up a very simple website for my family and friends to post pictures and stories of my mother who passed away last year.

I'm completely new to this and just wondering where to start from.
Do I create a webpage or forum to allow people post text/pictures ?
Should I go with sites like Webworld or something like phpbb ?

    Just looking or opinions please

    How about a blog?

    https://www.blogger.com/start
    http://wordpress.com/

A forum might have a bit too much functionality.

Nice idea by the way :)

I would also go with a blog. Might be nice for users to add nice written pieces as well as photos. You could set up members too who can post and restrict to just them if you like.

A website might be too public for your familys wishes. A blog might suit you better to make it easier for other members to upload pictures and contribute.

There's a great website called InLovingMemory.ie that a neighbour set up a memorial page to her mother. It can be as public or private as you like, pictures, poem and music can be added, and messages left on a public wall. I thought it was a touching idea, i learned a lot of lovely things about my late neighbour through memories that her friends and family left, and its a great way to remember someone special.

    Thanks very much everybody.
I'll take a look at both a blog and inlovingmemory.ie and let you know how I get on

I wouldn't bother trying to roll your own site that you need to maintain. There are lots of great solutions out there already. One of the better ones I have come across is http://1000memories.com/

You can see a sample here: http://1000memories.com/saldebruno
