My friend has just moved into an apartment. Apparently the last tenants were smokers.

The smell of smoke goes when she opens all the windows etc but by time she returns home from work it's back.

Any suggestions how to get rid of smell of smoke/residue of smoke?

Ask the last tenants to leave?

    Don't close the windows :D

The smoke is more then like in all the fabrics of the furniture and curtains, either they get them cleaned or have them replaced.

    Yes the couch seems okay.

The curtains are bad. Going to try washing those.

A mixture of household soda, a few drops of ammonia and some lavender oil infused with boiling water should get rid of stale tobacco smells. If the smell persists, dilute a few drops of ammonia in some water and leave in the room overnight.

Cut up some lemons and oranges and place them around the place. They soak up smells.

Apparently you can't buy ammonia anymore as it can also be used in bombs.

    Fabreze is good stuff

And I like scented candles, on sale in any town realy.
Fabreze to solve it and candles to mask what's left

Speak to the landlord about having the carpets and furniture professionally cleaned.

This should be a standard part of what a landlord does when any tenant moves out.
