Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

I'd switch Irwin with O'Shea and replace O'Shea with Staunton.

I tried to pick teams that could actually play together in real life. Giggs as an AM could work in that team I think.

    Foreign team:

    Schmeichel

    Irwin---Carvalho---Vidic---Evra

    Keane
    ----Vieira
    Giggs

    Ronaldo
    Henry

    Drogba

Deciding between O'Shea and Dunne was tricky. I would not have Moran as his best days were gone when the Premiership started. Staunton was a very close call too.

Counting Barnes as Jamaican? He played enough for England so he has to count as English surely?

Its debatable alright, but given he was born in Jamaica, and lived there until he was about 16 I think its fair game. Could say the same about Ryan Giggs, he was only a kid when he moved to Manchester, and played underage for England

    They're fairly well balanced teams.

Most XIs would have more United players in them, considering United were close to an unstoppable force in the 90s in England.

Nothing at all, just really clarification, thread title is best Prem team, so Lineker did not play in the Prem so why would you include him, if we are including the old div 1 also, then I may need to revise my team.

I'd say the same for Sol Campbell. Spurs, Arsenal, Portsmouth - class throughout.

He'd probably be the first name on my 'English' team.

I actually felt he never got the credit he deserved in the media, even in the English media.

Even though I support Arsenal, David Ginola was pretty good on his day!

No Matt Le Tissier, Robbie Fowler, Zola, Rush and of course the lethal striker that was.....Jason Lee :D

Surely that's just better suited to a 4-4-2?

I think Drogba is best on his own up front and Ronaldo is better in a front 3. Henry more or less played wide left for Arsenal a lot of the time. It could switch to 4-4-2 if needs be, but 4-3-3 would probably work better with those players and could see a lot of movement up top between Giggs, Henry and Ronaldo.

Giggs is not eligible to play for England. Sierra Leone and Wales are the only countries he could play international football for. He was a schoolboy in England as a teen so he played for the England schoolboy team. But that is a world away from actually playing for an English international team.

Whereas Barnes actually has 79 England caps.

So by the same logic, would you class Emmanuel Olisadebe as Polish?

Im sure Ryan Giggs would have been eligable to play for England, given he lived in Manchester since he was 6. If Cudicini & Almnuia are now eligable for England, I dont see how Giggs wouldnt have been. I dont know that for a fact now, Im just assuming.

Wrt to Barnes, yea he played for England but if your born in Jamacia, and live there till your 15/16, I think its fair enough that your regarded as Jamacian

That is a different situation altogether. Poland are much less stringent on passports and eligibility than England were in the early 90s. They have only recently changed the citizenship issue in England so Giggs would have had to have remained uncapped into his 30s to take advantage of the situation Cudicini could now use.
Contrary to popular belief, Giggsy never had the option of playing for England. He was born in Cardiff to Welsh parents, and only moved to the Manchester area when he was seven.

He did captain England schoolboys when he played at that level for Manchester United but, as Mark Wylie of the Manchester United museum explains: "That was due to residence. Plenty of Scots have played for England schools. It just depends on where you go to school."

Your obviously right so about Giggs's eligability for England then.

I dont know how it works in the UK wrt citizenship. I mean Giggs is obviously a British citizen, but what is the requirement to be an English citizen? Given that he lived in Manchester since he was 7, I would have thought he would have been entitled to 'English Citizenship'

Im not arguing the point with you, he obviously wasent eligable, just think its strange that he wasent

Wrt Olisadebe/Barnes, I do think its the same thing. They were both born and raised in one country, yet represented another. Maybe agree to disagree on this point? Were kinda getting into anorak territory here

If football had any sense Barnes would play for Jamaica and the likes of Deco and Eduardo for Brazil. So you really should be right.
