I’m sure you’s have heard fresh opened in capital dock store is quite big tbh also brewdog is opening soon in the big weirdly shaped red building and the art of coffee is opening soon too all they need to do is connect capital dock with the 3arena by a bridge instead of going up a bit then crossing and come back down

The bridge is planned. But it'll be years away and it's a huge detour on foot either direction - and the foot crossing of the canal mouth isn't great!

Not a bad cycle via Samuel Beckett Bridge

More developments for Castleforbes / Mayor St area

Kennedy Wilson seeks planning for major Dublin docklands campus
Coopers Cross campus to include 390,000sq ft of offices, new homes and a public park.

Kennedy Wilson has submitted a planning application for over 390,000sq ft of office space in Dublin’s north docklands.

The proposed office accommodation forms part of a wider mixed-use campus to be known as Coopers Cross, which the US-headquartered real estate company intends to develop on a 5.9-acre site to the rear of the Central Bank’s headquarters on North Wall Quay.

Kennedy Wilson and its joint venture partners, AXA Investment Managers – Real Assets and Cain International, acquired the lands for €113 million last year.

Upon completion Coopers Cross will take up an entire city block fronting Mayor Street Upper, Castleforbes Road, Sheriff Street Upper and New Wapping Street.

The new campus is set to comprise two six-storey office blocks alongside 449 private rented sector (PRS) apartments, and a new public park and square.

The development will also include what the promoters are describing as a “multi-functional town hall space”.

Peter Collins, president of Kennedy Wilson Europe, said: “The north docks is fast becoming a destination of choice for Irish and multinational companies seeking modern, flexible floor plates within close proximity of public transport, Dublin Port Tunnel and Dublin airport. Coopers Cross will add to the significant regeneration already under way [in the docklands].”

A 6 floor office block? Like a common suburban business unit.

The Mayson Hotel on North Wall Quay by Press up is opening very soon. Room Reservations from Monday 16th of December onwards so it will get the busy Christmas period and probably get a few Christmas parties in as well.

They will also operate a premium gym called Powergym from the premises.

The restaurant at the top will be called Ryleigh's rooftop grill

Separately, a 270 bedroom 10 storey hotel and 9 storey office block have been given planning permission in the eastern triangle of Castleforbes Business Park. This is being developed by Glenveagh Living

A division of BWG (Spar operator) has applied for permission for an off-licence in the "Spar Retail Unit" in the Spencer Dock development; this probably suggests a subset of that vast empty space is going to be opening as a Spar soon enough.

This should divert some of the breakfast roll and smokes business from the Castleforbes Spar anyway!

Hi, That's interesting about the proposed development of Castleforbes Business Park. (I live across the road) I've been squinting at the pics above #686 the new development looks vast! I wonder does it just include the industrial park (the warehouse units only) or the park and the truck parking lot/depot site too?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 69,249 ✭✭✭✭L1011

The just approved permission is the truck depot. There is a plan that hasn't gone in yet for the rest (the industrial units) so the lot is going

Thanks, I guess I'm in for a very noisy/dusty few years!

    Are their any plans online?

Glenveagh are doing the redevelopment of the entire area basically.

Planning app 3433/19 is the just approved hotel and offices for the McMahons yard end of Castleforbes. Its impossible to link to planning apps but its easy to search with that app ID.

I'm having trouble finding the renderings I've seen for the other end but there's one in the Irish Times

This is their recently approved proposal for the Hireco/Dublin Waste site across the rail tracks:

Everything is of a pretty design quality design-wise.

There is the link to all the photos in the McMahon's Yard (Fortwilliam site) - east side of Castleforbes

There is the site with the hotel marked in red for the hotel and office block

The other portion of the same site which is also owned by Glenveagh is also marked. This will contain c.600apartments, another 250 bedroom hotel, 1 office block and a public square

There is an extensive chat about this topic and the development of the area on Skyscrapercity forum

As a daily Docklands train station user, I'll find that new Spar location really handy for grabbing coffee in the morning, milk on way home etc as I imagine lots of other commuters who cross Beckett bridge will too. Currently you have to detour to either Fresh or other outlets a little out of the way as you hurry to or from work. It'll brighten up that dead street corner too!

That whole area will have a lot more activity now when the new cycle connection opens as well from Newcomen bridge. The Sheriff Street/Royal Canal cycle interchange there will probably get as busy as the one at the Grand Canal interchange beside the Velasco building which is insanely busy in the morning times.

That Scherzer bridge is also badly in need of a lick of paint and a bit of weeding and has been for about 30 years!

Good times for that area. Much needed development of some dreary plots and corners. That's a lot of apts too. Goodbye sneaky parking after 7pm on castleforbes road haha :D

I hate the look of that Scherzer bridge at Sheriff st uppr. In bad bad need of some restoration. Didn't know the names of those bridges until your post. Thanks.:)

What is the difference between a Scherzer bridge and any other Bascule bridge?

Nice to see the paths on the river side of the bridge in front of Convention Centre being widened too. It was a bitch to pass through it previously when there were oncoming pedestrians as it was so narrow.
