Your local green grocer may be able to source them for you, where are you based?

    I'm within reach of Maynooth-Celbridge-Newcastle-Rathcoole-Clane.
I hardly shop in the green grocers around those area as the produce they sell always look rather tired. But I suppose if they can source me morels, I should start making effort.

    Anywhere else?

Morel's appear in the spring (April/May), and as far as I know can't be reliably cultivated, so if it's fresh ones you're after you're out of luck. They can be obtained dried though.

Dried ones are fine by me.
But I still can't find them anywhere. Normally porcinis.

I don't know your area, but if you're ever in the big smoke I'd give Fallon & Byrne's a try.

I did try F&B -- they only had ceps and porcinis. I'll probably give them a ring and ask if they ever stock them in. Thanks you two :)

Other places to try might be Donnybrook Fair (any of their many branches) or there's an Italian Deli in the "Italian Quarter" (north side of the Millenium Bridge). Magill's on Clarendon St. is worth a try also, something of an Aladdin's cave.

    Will ring DF too.

For no apparent reason I've never actually stepped into Magill's although I used to pass by the deli very often. Shame on me. I should give it a try. Thanks.

Hey folks, I remember seeing morels in Fallon and Byrne maybe a year or two ago. I came here as I can't remember the price on them and was trying to find it online.

Does anyone know how much they sell for per kg here and are fresh more expensive than dried? Where do restaurants etc get them I wonder?

Where are you? The UK? Are you sure that's the price for Morels? I checked prices this morning since my post, 4 different places for dried morels and they were all between €499 and €600 per KG.

No chance, anybody charging that for morels isn't selling any. That's closer to black truffle prices

Bit dearer in Ireland then UK alright.

Out of season for fresh ones anyway. However you might be right. I was way off anyway as it was £15 for 25g's....

Insane prices for morels, cheaper to buy Japanese Wagyu Beef Fillet, A4, Fresh at £975 for 4.5kg

So that's the pricing on Morels from the link you provided: http://www.laroussefoods.ie/pdf/Vegetables.pdf

So that's €780/kg for dried!! I thought that was wholesale pricing from larousse, but it's more expensive than what I've seen them for in Fallon and Byrne (€499/kg) and then Cavistons in Glasthule (€600/kg).

Fresh are much cheaper at €60/kg, but I believe they lose about 10x their weight when dry, so 10kg of fresh would only yield about 1kg of dried and they are probably much harder to come by fresh.
