Got this yesterday, first Android phone.

I imported from my SIM, then backed up to VCard, made some adjustments on my PC, and then put the SD Card back in to the phone, imported from SD card (it found the VCard file, and went through all the names on there), and now I have no contacts...

Any ideas?

Simplest thing to do is put the vCard on your PC, upload it to your gmail account, then sync your contacts. Very easy to do. If you want to keep track of which were uploaded, just select the option to add them to a new group in gmail when you're uploading the file. Then on your phone, you can set the contacts app to only display that group
