Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Commuting along the N4

Have been commuting from celbridge into town over the last few weeks going into town is fine taking the cycle path along the road, but coming out of town i don't fancy the idea of cycling out along the n4 past palmerstown up to the turn off for celbridge. At the moment i've been going the wrong way along the cycle path from chapelizod to lucan, which is grand as it's always empty when i'm on it but i still don't like going the wrong way on it. I'm Just looking for anyone else's opinion who might have a similar commute and how they get out and what the stretch along the N4 is like.
    Thanks in advance

The days i commute i just stick to the bus lane on the N4 all the way to Heuston station. The only really dodgy spot is the M50 junctions at Liffey Valley. But once you've your wits about you and signal clearly you should have no problems. I haven't experienced any real problems on that stretch. Compared to the Queys its much safer...

I think there are a few options out there. They may not be the fastest routes but would be far more enjoyable I expect.

Perhaps as a starting point you could fix what concerns you most - the part from Palmerstown to Celbridge - you could cut part of out by going around that part of the road: http://tinyurl.ie/cb2twn4

The route I would occasionally use is alongside the Liffey: http://tinyurl.ie/cb2twn2

They added speed bumps along that road about a year ago. It was a little busy before they were added but I do not know how busy it is now. You also have to deal with Knockmaroon hill which proves a talking point :) To avoid climbing Knockmaroon Hill from the Chapelizod side I would go through Phoenix Park - it is a lot more pleasant in there. This gives you this route: http://tinyurl.ie/cb2twn3

Another is going via Ballyfermot: http://tinyurl.ie/cb2twn but I have no experience of it.

Another potential alternative would be to go via Hazelhatch and Peamount to get onto the Grand Canal tow path that was opened recently.

It takes a while to find them, but there are alternatives out there.

Up by Hueston. Slipway down to Ballyfermot onto Liffey Valley then down to Lucan and onto Celbridge.
Very straight forward. I do this way a lot if I am heading out toward Kildare for a spin.
