I'm very keen to start playing a traditional instrument and was thinking of starting with the bodhran. Am I being naive in thinking it won't be too hard to pick up?! Anyone have any feedback on playing the bodhran?

It's hard to play one properly and not annoy the hell out of everyone else at a session. Don't be fooled into thinking it's a simple instrument, unless you already have a good percussion background.

didnt want to start a new thread as the OP is pretty much asking what i wanted to know!

very keen to learn how to play the bodhran. can anyone offer any insight into it? i dont have a background in percussion. i can play recorder (a little) and ukulele (self taught/youtube), and thats about it.

woudl it be difficult to master? i love a good challenge! :D
