Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Why does the cremation of care ritual imply that there is any harm?
    Sparticle wrote: »
It's a traditional symbolic ritual and it does no harm to anybody (Except the poor effigy). It's not as if it's magic and will bond their souls to satan or anything.

    The cremation of care ceremony.............
This "cremation" symbolizes that members are banishing the "dull cares" of conscience.[

What's the point in banishing you conscience unless you have done or will do something that will effect your conscience? C'mon.

Like dancing around dressed as a fairy? If they're acting like kids for the week, doing childish rituals then they could start the whole thing off with one that symbolises letting go of their worries. You know, like getting the first round in, in the pub on a friday.

It's also possible that it's just a stupid name given to a stupid ritual by stupid people and it may not mean anything. It's all guess work, really.

Every time i go to a catholic wedding I'm expected to pretend I'm a cannibal and eat the dead body of somebody who died 2010 years ago.

It's one thing going to a Catholic wedding. That religion is being thrust upon you. When the people doing the thrusting, are off in a forest worshipping owls, the mind boggles....

    Don't you get that ?

Uhh no, you are the one that things it's like going for a round of golf :D

Possible. It's not letting go of their worries though. It's letting go of their concience.

They seem to take it seriously enough like. It's been going on for a long time and has many attendees. A well organised event AFAIK. Not some flippantly stupid ritual by the sounds of things.

They have the most stressful jobs in the world, if dressing up and acting the bollox for 2 weeks helps them unwind, then leave them to it.

Ok, It doesn't sound very plausible. I find it hard to contemplate why you "seem like a level headed individual" can pass this off as letting off some steem. You are coming across as if you have something to loose if this is seen for what it is..

I'm afraid you're just clutching at straws. The fraternity culture is very strong in US college culture. This is just an extension brought into their adult lives. They get the f*ck about the woods, acting like loons without a care in the world. It's perfect R&R for the man who has everything.

They can go to the sun at any time. They don't get to act how they want there, though. Add to this that it's an exclusive club, then the members will feel like they're part of something special. Of course, not everyone who goes sees it this way, as Nixon's remarks prove.

Moloch appears in the Hebrew of 1 Kings 11:7 (on Solomon's religious failings):
Then did Solomon build a high place for Chemosh, the abomination of Moab, in the hill that is before Jerusalem, and lmlk, the abomination of the Sons of Ammon.

    Jewish diety AFAIK

What's the point of Spire? Or of that big sphere thingie at the central bank?
It's a sculpture of a owl, propably made to add some drama to their shenanigans.

Any chance you're going to provide something to show anything being killed in front of it?

They probably use it to make their ceremony more spectacular.
