Mean that weve achived our goal of winning connaught. Dont see how were given absolutely no chance of beating cork looking at their awful performance against limerick. They are a stronger side of course, but if they perform like that again next week theres no reason why we wont give them a good game

i will give you 2 main reasons -

cork are a far better team than roscommon.
limerick are a far better team than roscommon.

i would expect this to see cork hammer home by about 10 points at least.

Limerick? The same team who when it comes to taking a free kick continue to pass it backwards?Cork were for the taking saturday night but limericks negative tactics cost them. In fairness to them theyve ran sides close over the last few years but have never got over the finishing line. I find your second sentence strange there, very strange indeed.

Important to note that it is unconfirmed as yet.

limerick are one of the most underrated teams in the country, and IMO are in the top 8 teams right now. i would rate kerry, cork and tyrone as the top 3. considering that limerick have taken cork to extra time this year and rattled kerry to the guts, losing by a point last year to cork, they deserve respect as they consistently are able to go the full distance with who are perceived to be the 2 best teams in ireland right now.

roscommon i think, are the 4th best team in connacht and would struggle aginst i would think to be seriously considered in the top 16 teams in the country. one result v sligo does not change that, ye got a lucky draw against the might london and leitrim, leaving the 3 best teams to knock each other out on the other side.

dont be fooled by cork either, they hammered wexford and cavan in the last 2 weeks and took kerry to extra time. they aint in as bad a place as people think.

cork by 10 as i said.

Important to note that of all the four qualifiers that took place last weekend, limerick got the home draw which helped a fair bit to come close to beating cork IMO. If limerick are one of the top 8 teams in the country as you think then why were they in division 4 this year?Cork did hammer wexford and cavan, however cavan had several injuries going into that contest, including their main forward seanie johnston so that was never going to be a contest.Youre right cork arent in a bad place as people think.

As for roscommon being 4th best team in connaught?Well Mayo after losing to sligo, lost to longford, the same side who could only beat london and kilkenny in the national football league. We beat sligo fair and square in the final. Galway should perhaps have beaten sligo in the replay but they gave away a poor goal and that cost them. I reckon on that basis we could arguably be the second best team in connaught

Thats really unfair, Navan is a home fixture for Dublin with all the Dubs living there.

Typical Dubs getting the rub of the green again.

    :D:D

From a personal point of view I'm not too pleased with the fixture times as it makes it difficult (not impossible) or me to attend this one. Plus I was looking forward to a Sunday game. Oh well.

Delighted that the Kerry game was fixed for the same day as the minors game and the Tyrone Dublin game. If that day had been Sunday it would have been perfect, but I'll get over it!:D

Happy enough with that, would have preferred Sunday, but interested to see Kerry v Down also so nice day out. Hopefully weather is as nice as this week was.

Getting all the Nordie teams up to play on Saturday is finacially sounder!

How so? I would have thought that having the Dubs game on Sunday would have been the best bet financially (i.e. bigger turnout of Dubs fans).

They don't have a bank holiday on Monday, where as Cork, Meath, Rossies & Kildare do.
So the GAA probably though, get them up on the saturday and they'll stay over, spend more, not rush home for work, etc...
    Just a thought. :o

A great day of football in Croker on the Saturday - the minor game should be close followed by 2 top class senior games.

Cork will be no price, they've already gone 2/1 favs now outright. An indication of being as good as in the semi's. Rosscommon will be around 9/1 for the game in 70 mins.
Wasn't far off, Ross 8/1 best price.

Im glad the Dublin game is part of a double header. Amongst other things (insufficient players, lack of team spirit, lack of cohesion), the fact that Dublin were given stand alone games (sometimes in mid-August) was a significant disadvantage, as it meant, Dublin often had to wait several weeks after the leinster final to play again. In the meantime, the likes of Kerry and Tyrone had played two extrag games a piece, and had been dragged through the mud by the media as "fading teams"

For the first time in several years, Dublin will enter this contest as overwhelming underdogs. People with short memories will forget that Dublin (in 2008) simply to turn up and dispatch of Tyrone as Laois and Meath had done in the previous two years. While the margin was far thinner in 2009, most would have anticipated Dublin having a good shot at Kerry in 2009, in the light of the Leinster Final and Kerry's poor performances.

I expect Tyrone to win this tie. However, nobody is under any illusion as to the quality of this Tyrone team. This Dublin team are in their infancy, while Tyrone have almost a decades worth of experience, with three AI titles to their credit.

Has there ever been a set of quarter finals where no provincial finalists won? Kildare vs Meath will be tight tomorrow and Cork are heavy favourites to beat Roscommon

In 2008 3 provincial champions lost. Being a provincial champion does not seem to be much of an advantage.
