Alex "Hurricane" Higgins has died of cancer at the age of 61.

A genius. A flawed genius maybe but a genius nonetheless, a true peoples champion and the reason why I and thousands if not millions like me started to watch snooker.

Thanks for all the memories Alex, there will never be another like you.....

He was certainly a character in his day.
I still remember him winning the world championships and he crying and kissing his wife and baby then.

    Rest In Peace Alex.

Pretty sure it's considered (and named) the bereavement forum, not a condolences forum.

AFAIK it's for people suffering bereavement related issues not for people who want to show a mark of respect to a celebrity. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

No surprise, anyone who saw him in the last few years knew he was on his final frame.
Not a very commendable fellow really.

There are many things that you could say about him, and "He was a very nice fellow" is probably not one of them.

However, I can say this with absolute certainty: albeit in a minor way, he improved my quality of life.

    RIP

I saw him play a frame on TV a while back and the guy looked months from death. Showed great spirit to get up a play a frame in the condition he was in.

Supposedly his burial site is to the rear of plots belonging to the best snooker players from Africa, Pakistan, and China.
Totally unfair, as he's completely snookered behind the black, brown and yellow.

Jaysus, it's hard to believe that he was only 61 - he looked at least 20 years older.

Went out to Citywest two weeks back to see him at Snooker Legends and was gutted he wasn't there as it was the only reason I went out.

Met Jimmy White, Ken Doherty, Dennis Taylor, John Parrot etc and got all their autographs but it just wasn't the same.

At the memorabilia stall, the first question everyone asked was:

"Have you got anything left that's been signed by Alex .."

The answer was no of course, anything that he did sign was sold very fast.

Seen him a few times in the flesh in his heyday.

He was a regular sight around Malahide's pubs and bookies in the 90's.

    RIP

    One of his last interviews:

Good at snooker and a good entertainer but hardly a genius. A genius wouldn't smoke and drink themselves into an early grave.

I think the next hurricane to hit the US should be named Hurricane Higgins in memory of Alex

Really? Because you have achieved so much in this life? When you have influenced anything come back and comment!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 37,214 ✭✭✭✭Dudess

By that logic, people can't comment on/have an opinion on ANYTHING.
