primary teaching

    hi, i had hoped to study primary teaching as a mature student this year but have only just realized that i don't have the academic requirements for the course!!just wondering does anybody know any way around this or am i doomed!!i have level 5 and level 6 fetec awards!!help!!:(

    Have you applied yet? If not you are not likely to be studying this year. If you have applied you will either be accepted or rejected, and there is not much you can do at this stage to change the situation.

    Whether your Fetac results will be accepted depends on how good they are, and whether the college you are applying to accepts Fetac.

    Currently there doesnt appear to be any FETAC route into a Primary Education degree - chech out http://www.cao.ie/index.php?page=scoring&s=fetac for full details of links from FETAC courses into specific degrees in IoTs and Universities.

    Your otions are;
    1. Undertake an Arts degree and then the 18 months postgraduate course for Primary Teaching (not always run)
    2. Apply to the UK

    I would suggest that you also contact a Careers Advisor in your FETAC centre for further advice and also the Admissions officer of the college you want to take a Primary Teaching degree in for further assistance.

    thanks iv emailed the college and the lady in charged of fetec, id be willing to hold off a year and also repeat some leaving cert subjects in june just want to see what my options are before make any big decisions!!
