    Hey there I was just wondering when do people who have applied to the CAO through a FETAC course get offered college places?
    Is it the round of offers early in August or later on in August when the leaving cert students are offered places??

    It really depends on which FETAC route you are following as there are 2 FETAC routes - the orginial Higher Links scheme and the Pilot scheme. You cant select which one fall into to as it depends on the course and the college you are going to.

    Generally IoT courses are in the pilot scheme and that is where you can gain a maximun of 400 points (Distinction = 50 etc) while the former scheme (Higher Education Links) is for a reserved number of places and points are determined in a different manner. (Distinction = 3, etc) This is mainly for University and DIT courses and a few other colleges.

    The following is taken from FETAC's website;
    In addition to the Higher Education Links Scheme (HELS) which links specific FETAC Level 5 Certificates and some Level 6 Advanced Certificates to a number of reserved places on higher education courses, the Institutes of Technology and some higher education institutions operate an admissions criteria and scoring system for non-specific FETAC Level 5 Certificate and Level 6 Advanced Certificate applicants.

    When the offer is made depends on which of the two schemes (Higher Educations Links or Pilot) your application falls into. Round Zero (early August) has a number of FETAC applicnats. The CAO state that Applicants presenting FETAC (2002-2010) for consideration for entry to courses
    with a quota for FETAC applicants may also be included
    at this stage.

    Other offers take place in Round 1 and these are generally those in the pilot scheme.
