Why do people feel they aren't racist if they have BLACK friends not asian or english or some other race but to show they aren't racist they say things like: "I have lots of black friends"

-_- Isn't that racist in its own way O_O Its personal because i get people saying tha to me all the time and am seriously sick of it and i wanna know why people feel this way..

How is this a personal issue for you?

It isn't racist because they are black. That's like saying I have a friend who is American, or a friend with brown hair. That's not considered racist yet it's near enough the same thing.

Lowering a persons status in the world because of their race or colour is racist.

I think I get what the op is saying :P (didnt quite understand there for a second lol)

Op seems to ask why do people refer to not being racsist if one would mention "oh well im not a racist, i've got black friends!" ... rather than saying asian, or spanish etc etc etc.

Fact is op. the whole black-white thing is your usual racist issues. When the word "rascist" etc comes up. people usually think white-black.

Its one of the oldest 'Imnotaracisthonesti'vegotablackfriend' defences. Utterly pathetic when you hear someone come out with this line.

I wouldn't read too much into it OP. It's almost become a figure of speech now. Probably for several reasons. If you're White then a black person would appear to you possibly 'as different as it gets' while being friendly with an Asian person or a Spanish person doesn't seem to be much of a statement. Also blacks have suffered arguably the most from racial abuse over the times and racism has become in many parts synonymous with aversion towards blacks. I wouldn't call that in itself racism. It's asign of the times that we feel being coerced into such PC'ness sometimes that ww can't even speak normally. Like for instance in some company you might feel obliged to overdue this gender neutral thing. Everytime a third party is described and one may naturally refer to the male form one may feel obliged to add 'or her' to the sentence. What you are describing would be an exaggeration of that. What you are asking is effectively that every time I'm denying being a racist because I have loads of suchandsuch friends I actually have to rotate the race I'm referring to in my sentence. I think that's just silly and overcomplicating things. I mean for starters how often wound you even have to say this? And what if I just happen to have black friends but not Asian?
