Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

A Planet X Nanolight with SRAM Rival is what you need :)

Thanks, never looked at these bikes before, a decent bike in my price range.

I just got one of these for my birthday which is in your price range and is brilliant if you're happy with SRAM Force (Ultegra equiv.):

They are running a sale so lower spec versions are cheaper too.

I'm 6'4" and the 60cm frame is perfect for me

TBH if you can hang on about 8 weeks when the 2011 bikes will be launched, you'll be able to pick up the current 2010 bikes with a decent discount.

Boardman, though, is a great bike, Ultegra would be better/nicer if you can stretch to it.

Giant TCR Advanced 3, great bike, dont like Giant normally but this is an absolute cracker, again keep an eye out for decent discounts in a few weeks.

You might find a 'slight' Planet X bias on here, resist whatever you do !

Its like invasion of the body snatchers, nest thing you know, your mate has one aaarrrggghhhhh ... :)

I didn't want to share this if you'd already placed the order.

I was talking to someone at a race the other week who had chopped his Storck in for a Canyon. He reckoned the Storck was too harsh for Irish roads.

It's second hand info and I can't remember which model he had, so obviously feel free to take this with a pinch of salt.

Very interesting Lumen, thanks, had planned to try find a person or two who had rode them and find out a bit more before i placed an order. be interesting to see if anyone comes along and adds to the thread in that respect

Also, watch out for Storcks geometry, very long top tubes.

Did you get a Nanolight or the SL Carbon? Thinking of getting the Nanolight but despite the hoards of boardsies that have gone planet X they all seem to be the SL.

The Nanolight was only recently introduced, at a significant premium to the SL. It got one bad review, not that that means anything.

At £1299 (~€1550) it's not the same sort of bargain as the SL was - when £/€ were near parity the SL with Ultegra was close to €1k.

I just got a Ridley Orion only a noob but I love it. Just a tad over 1.5k.

I think that sort of thing, as with geometry, is very personal.

GBD cycle consultants have just recently secured the agency to bring Stevens bikes to Ireland. Two flagship retailers soon to be announced but find us on facebook; search 'stevens bikes ireland'.
The bikes are amazing quality and value.

Stevens bikes have an online custom configurator to allow you choose group sets / frame & parts options for road bikes.
You could get a top end Xenon frame and Ultegra group set for about your price point, or look at the SCF 105 in the 'race' section on the web site.

pm me if you need any more details

Traded a Storck for a Canyon because the Storck was too harsh?
Hmm much debate everywhere about the stiff nature of German frames(Canyon/Storck/Cube etc)and unless you're arse is made of Kevlar I think these bikes are hard for the roads here-by all means responsive and quick, but undeniably hard, especially for a newbie.
    Giant TCR or Cannondale Synapse.

Thanks very much for all your advice. I was thinking allright about waiting until the 2011 bikes come out and hopefully get a discount on a 2010 bike. I have looked online at the Giant TCR Advanced 3,out of my range at todays prices(wife wont let me!)...any advice on where to pick up one that may be discounted later on in the year. Also anyone out there own a scott addict a few of my mates own them and seem to like them. The planet x looks a good bike at the money. Thanks again.

I have a Scott Addict, based on a 2008 SL frameset. I find it excellent. There are few others on here with them too.

    Scott Addict excellent machine.

I would be interested in hearing more on the storck vs canyon debate as I am currently thinking of changing from my cube to one of the above for next year. Is the storck really that stiff????

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,088 ✭✭✭Murph100
