Hi all, i've been having this problem for most of my life. No matter where i am or who i'm with this thing has been following me around on and off my whole life. I've realised that its not everybody else, its me at fault here.

Just to introduce myself, i am what other people consider genuinely nice, athletic, smart, friendly and good looking. Pretty much the requisite for a life of success and happiness, although that realy is not the case.

The problem is i have very little social skills. I should be the confident successful type though i've noticed that people tend not to like me. They avoid me like the plague. 'Cool' people i bump into talk to me briefly before going off and having fun with their friends.

Let me explain my social situation. I have friends where i live, college friends, sports friends, and friends from a school i went to ages ago who i sometimes see. I generally hang out with my friends from my area a bit, rarely see my colllege friends outside college, never see my sports friends (on account my quitting that sport) and only see my old school friends when my friends from the area invite me.

For some reason my old school friends seem to have gone off me recently so my close friends dont invite me out with them anymore. Not that i really did anything to piss them off, i guess i just dont step up to the plate socially.

This all really came to a point recently when in a group of people talking, i overheard someone saying they didnt like me and didn't hear too much objection. And when walking with my girlfriend on a night out i was burned by someone who used to be a good friend of mine. Its not nice to have your girlfriend witness that.

I really dont get whats going on. I don't lie, i never talk about people behind their back, so im not sure what people have against me.

Part of the reason may be that i say stupid things, i can be awkward in conversation, im funny but not in groups, i cant take slagging. Overall people dont think i'm a good person to be seen with. I'd really appreciate any advice you guys could give me cos i want to fix this problem once and for all. Thanks! :D

Honestly I think you should stop worrying about what other people think of ya. Iv drifted away from so many friends down the years, but ya always make new friends.

If your supposed "friends" dont like you then its their problem.

Two words. Who cares. It seems to me that your friends have the emotional maturity of 14 year olds. It surprises me that people still behave like that (I'm assuming you are early 20s?)

Unfortunatly this sort of behaviour does still go on when people are in their 20s!If you a basically a good person your genuine friends will like you faults and all.We all have different groups of friends when we are younger especially, you may get on very well with someone at work/college what ever but never really socialise with them. As for the friend who burned you while out with your girlfriend forget about them this is ignorant and they dont deserve a place in your life. Try to lighten up and be able to take a bit of teasing, maybe you are a seen as a little straight laced? You dont need to be liked by lots of people to get on in life just like yourself.
