Gardaí in south Dublin are questioning a man and a woman after they uncovered what they said was a cannabis factory in a house in Stillorgan.

As the result of an operation targeting the sale and supply of drugs in the Blackrock area, gardaí searched a car at Drummartin Link Road, Stillorgan, at about 1pm yesterday.

Five kilos of herbal cannabis was discovered in the car and a man (33) was arrested. In a follow-up investigation, No 24, Mount Anville Wood, Stillorgan, was searched later in the day.

"The search of this house revealed that the entire upstairs was being used as a cannabis factory. In each of the four upstairs bedrooms there was a pot-grow system with high density lighting systems, reflective wall coverings, and extensive ventilation and air extraction systems," the spokesman said.

About 500 cannabis plants and several more kilos of herbal cannabis were discovered. A woman (33) was arrested at the scene. Two follow-up searches were carried out in Clondalkin and Crumlin, but there were no seizures or arrests.

"The total street value of both seizures is believed to be in the region of €600,000, subject to further analysis," the Garda spokesman said.

Locals will be shocked!!! Thinking of taking the kids out of the local school and moving them to Moyross National - bit of a drive but at least they wouldn't have to contend with such crime on the door step...

Seriously though... wife drove past as they stopped the car with the bales in it; she said the car was stopped at lights and Guard's hopped from a few cars and surrounded them; needless to say she checked the tax disk was in order:D

Fairly poor reporting to be honest if you're not able to distinguish between three separate areas.

TBH, I think the reporters like to use Stillorgan to describe the Mount Merrion, Kilmacud and Stillorgan areas. The shooting was in Kilmacud and yet they reported that it was in Stillorgan.
