Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

    Hi,
I'm in the market for a new bike and looking at my options. First off, a bit of background. I'm 6 foot tall, about 90 kg.
I'm doing 2-3 triathlons this year and hoping to get out for 80-90km cycles every 2 weeks before winter comes in. Next year, I'd like to do the Wicklow 200.

I'm looking at a couple of bikes but as I've never spent a lot of money on a bike before I'm not sure what I'm for.
The bikes that I'm looking at:
    Kelly's IRC 3.9
    Cube Agree SL
    Cube Attempt
    Planet X Pro Carbon SL

Anybody any experience of these bikes?
I'm not sure about the Kelly's but the others all seem pretty solid in online reviews. There's €200 between the Cube Agree SL and the Cube Attempt / Planet X though. Is it justified?

    Thanks

Actually, I think the Planet X may be out of the running... can't find a supplier in Ireland and I don't think the CycleToWork scheme covers online purchases?

There is nothing to prevent online purchases unless your employer does so- some have a limited list of shops or go through a third party that does. The Planet X is worth the extra €200 certainly, IMO, for the carbon frame. Niceonetom had a Cube aluminium frame which he swapped for a PX incidentally so would have experience of both.

Id have it between the cube agree (surprisingly light) and planet x, the planet x being the better value for money and worth the extra money but i just dont like the look of planet x's myself (sorry dont bash me)

Cheers - I'm self-employed so it shouldn't be a problem once there is no issue in principal with buying online.
Gotta say I loved the Cube Agree when I saw it. Really light and looks great. It's in Cycle Superstore for €1,395 which is more than I wanted to spend but they say it's down from €1,800 and they wouldn't budge on the price.

Apart from the cycle to work scheme not applicable to self employed people? You might want to investigate that first.

Didn't know that. I'm employed by my own Limited company and I'm a PAYE employee. I thought that would still fall under the CTW scheme?

I'll do some more research first, that makes it a lot more expensive.

Since you are a PAYE employee you are covered. You ll have no problems ordering from Uk!

That's okay for the scheme all right, as you aren't self employed so :)

Carry on with the planet-x discussion...

:D Great... so on with the decision.

The Planet-X is about €1,250 against €1,395 for the Cube Agree or €1,200 for the Cube Attempt. I have seen and briefly tried the Agree and really like it. No idea about the Planet X except a couple of online reviews. Same with the Attempt, felt a similar frame from Cube and it was noticibly heavier.

Don't think the Planet X looks as good as the Cubes but it's a great price for a carbon bike.
