Isis magazine has posted updated information on two upcoming Bob Dylan archival releases.

In October, Sony Legacy be releasing The Bootleg Series Vol. 9, and a box set of the first eight Bob Dylan albums in mono. The official announcement is expected to be made next month.

The Bootleg Series will be “a set of non-live recordings, well-known to collectors”. It is based on the "Witmark Demos", but is expected to include some "Leeds Demos" as well. A total of 47 tracks are expected to be included.

The first Bob Dylan eight albums. from Bob Dylan to John Wesley Harding, were originally available in mono. They have never officially been available on compact disc before. Throughout most of the 1960s, more attention had been paid to monaural mixes than stereo. However, but the end of the decade, mono was phased out in favor of stereo. The new CDs were reportedly newly mastered, with "using first issue copies of the mono LPs for reference".

Class, huge fan of the bootleg series, been waiting for these to surface for a while.

Wonder will we ever see the Dylan and Cash out-takes hit the shelves?

I would have prefered a gospel era gig, a gig from the 80's (the Tom Petty tour in particular) or anything from the 90's to present day. I guess 1960's Bob is still a big seller and no doubt Il be shelling out for the lot!!!

    Damn you Sony!!

Iirc, Dylan has recorded most of his gigs from the mid 70's on. We'll be hearing "new" Dylan bootlegs for the foreseeable future.

I'm vaguely there's a lost 80's album out there somewhere, the Infidels sessions that never surfaced perhaps?

The stuff on this boot is top notch!

A load of that stuff is already on Bootleg series 1 isn't it? I'm almost sure there were whitmark demos on it.

Anyway, I wish they'd get their act together and release the live gospel stuff. It's some of the best music I've ever heard, and most people don't even know about it because the studio albums of the same period were muck.

Must check it out, would happily buy same from Sony if they bothered to release it, some those sessions are meant to be better than the official album. (and Blind Willie McTell is without a doubt better than songs on Infidel).

There is a version of Blind Willie that is full band with electric guitar from Bob, well worth finding. I had it on my old laptop which is sadly dead and I never backed it up:(

www.expectingrain.com is a must visit site for Dylan fans, just for the rare recordings section alone.

Also some new news on probable tracklisting

Ah good old Griel Marcus, still managing to get writing gigs despite most of his stuff being unreadable nonsense, I've tried in vain to find merit in his books on Dylan. For some reason, writing about Dylan brings out the worst in writers.

Really gutted it's the sessions from the early 60's and not some of the stuff in the vault from later years ala 'Tell Tale Signs'. It's a Dylan compilation I will never tire of.

Bob Dylan will release the ninth volume of his Bootleg Serieson October 19th, he has announced, confirming recent rumors. This edition will be the first official collection of the Witmark Demos, 47 songs that Dylan recorded between 1962 and 1964 for his first two publishers, Leeds Music and M. Witmark & Sons. The deluxe set will feature a booklet of photos from those sessions and in-depth liner notes by Colin Escott.

    Looking forward to it.

I would agree with Greil Marcus that listening to the Mono recordings is the way to hear the original albums - got myself an original 'Another Side of Bob Dylan' mono vinyl and it is even more stunning than can be described.

It's my least favorite release of the 'Bootleg Series' but some of the tracks are right little gems. I hope the next release in the series will bring us a gospel gig or some of the great shows he performed in 1994.
