Just got the new update on my HTC Legend, downloading now

    Congratulations!
Your phone has been updated successfully to version 2.05.405.2.

Not Froyo, I got a bit overexcited!

  • Registered Users Posts: 189 ✭✭choronzonix

I hope this is true, would love to have official froyo :)

Ah for god sake. Just spent the last few hours fiddling with my desire so I could put on one of the froyo ROMs.

Don't worry - there will be better custom roms based on this official one .. Plus you have root for proper apps2sd and market etc - all in all you haven't wasted your time! ;)

Yeah I have it set to wake-up using the trackpad button now instead of the power button and I've got a froyo rom running. There's loads of lil mods on xda. Worth the time to root anyway.

I put on the leaked official sense froyo Rom from page 4 on the one click root thread

Can I still add separate mods Luke trackball wake too?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,906 ✭✭✭EGriff

Yeah just add them like you did the rom. I used rom manager from the market.

Here's the link, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=696907 there's a couple of different options, you can use nearly any of the buttons.

Will the current rooting methods work on the Desire after 2.2 upgrade?

Not until somebody cracks the new bootloader. And there's always a chance that might never happen...

There will be a rooted version using an older bootloader available within a day or two so you should probably wait for that.

Also, there's no guarantee that the desire will get an official gingerbread port, so you're better off using a rooted rom for now, just in case you want to install an unofficial 3.0 rom at a later date.

Having some issues with custom roms. Each one does something too annoying to put up with. Opendesire freezes, bootloader buttons rarely work. Sense froyo will ony let me install a few apps to SDand the speaker phone turns itself on all the time. Think i'll chance stock when it comes out.

I have my Desire rooted now with the default HTC rom. If the official 2.2 rom update comes through and I update to it will it disable my current root?

    Thanks

Will the OS update notification be pushed to the phone or will we have to keep checking whether it's released or not?

To receive the OWA sure, but nothing stopping them from downloading a copy and flashing it.

No sooner will the first updates take place and it will be available for download everywhere

yep I'd imagine meteor phones will get this OTA :)

I'm just wondering is it worth getting this since I've rooted or wait for xda to alter it and then flash manually!?!?

    Fricking sweet!

Now to go home and unroot!

I'm intrigued by the iTunes sync ability. I would love if it synced playcount too, but its the one thing preventing from splashing out for a 32g card and ditching the ipod!

Good news :) Shouldn't take the XDA guys too long to push out an updated version of their ROMS including the new release.

So, will this be coming to O2 phone over the weekend? Are they unlocked like meteor ones?

nope, you will have to wait a few weeks unfortunately

well, if the phone is unlocked, and has zero software/hardware branding on it, then you should be fine.

  • Registered Users Posts: 189 ✭✭choronzonix

I bought my desire in CPW on meteor. There's no meteor branding on it and I'm wondering if its unlocked? Think I read somewhere here that desires bought for meteor in CPW were unlocked but I wouldn't mind knowing for sure...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,215 ✭✭✭Keith186

Most Desires, especially the earlier ones are unlocked.

Have only seen a few people on here in past few monthsmention they were locked and I think they were O2. I don't think CPW ones were locked either.

Just after putting my dad's Vodafone simcard into my Desire (on O2). was able to make calls on it. Looks like my Desire isn't locked.

Good stuff. Press menu, settings, about phone, system software, check for updates and repeat until you get it! Could be a while tho.

I'm on a flashed froyo sense Rom, much the same as 2.1 but much faster and a few nice add ons...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,923 ✭✭✭kearneybobs

Been doing that every couple of hours for the last couple of days now. I'd imagine it wont be hitting anytime today. But a man can dream. Was tempted to root the phone. But I think that I'll wait a little bit to do that.

    Is yours branded?

Em. Yeah. Everytime I turn it on, the O2 logo pops up. Should that mean I possibly wont get the update yet?

Don't know. Mine is branded aswell but I'm pretty sure its unlocked. I'm wondering the same thing. I'm o2.

I'll report back here if anything comes my way.

hi i bought a o2 payg from cpw. i then unlocked it and started using a tesco sim. so will i get an update automatically? or will i have to put
an o2 sim back in? its o2 branded.

I got an O2 desire (billpay) from CPW. It doesn't have any branding on it and I just tried a vodafone sim in, it worked without any problems. I guess it makes sense for bill pay to be sim free, after all the mobile network is going to get their money either way.

Not if they're Meteor! weh weh weh

I would imagine that if your phone is O2 branded (like mine) then you will have to wait several weeks for the operator-specific Froyo update (as it will be made available by O2 rather than HTC).

I can't see that sim-locking has any relevance to when the update will be available for your Desire.
