Getting land to build a house

Hi I will be given half a acre of land from grandfather soon to build a house on in the future but i was just wondering what kind of expense will i have to pay on it to get it signed over into myself and my partners name? Just so you understand I will not be building a house on for a few years anyway. Thanks Wayne
