photographic cover versions

ever take a photo which was a deliberate reference to a famous photo?
i took the below, which at the time i was taking it i realised was very similar to ansel adams's 'surf sequence', so i waited till the surf was just right to try to get the likeness even stronger.

The shot I submitted for 24/7 magazine, was inspired by a shot by Les McLean, not so much as cover of it, but while standing looking at the horse I recalled Les' shot and it kinda guided me:

So as I say not a cover but certainly inspired

you'd probably have to exclude photographs in which a landmark is a prominent feature in the photo. might be worth suggesting 'chez mondrian' by kertesz as something most people could try? unless they live in a single storey house (like me)

NO to Op's original comment, I only know of one real life Photographer who is famous and that was The Clash's photographer Pennie Smith, But I'd have no interest mimicking someone elses although with you Photo educated lot I do understand why you may.

at first i thought its a great idea, but then i thought about it and realised i dont actually know any famous photographers ( which made me feel stupid) i only know iconic (mostly music related) photos, like the clash album cover, and also mostly music/band stuff by ross halfin, so.... i dunno, i think its good to see a particular photo you like and see if you can do one yourself, its a nice way to learn i guess but doesnt really widen your creativity much??

i suppose my first reaction (albeit a somewhat drunken one) is that if it takes you somewhere you have not ventured before, it can widen your creativity.

I think the idea of recreating a famous photo is a great idea...springs to mind the famous Jimmy Dean Photo photo and the equally famous John McEnroe advert Rebel With A Cause.

Stuck in London for the last couple of months, so I was on a random walk today and saw a bunch of tourists standing around like they were waiting on a coach or something. Actually they were walking back and forward across the Abbey Road zebra crossing while their mates photographed them, (annoying the motorists.) There is a webcam at the spot that usually shows this activity going on non-stop, but it seems to be down at the moment.

there's one old fishing boat in Howth,a red & white one just at the start of the pier,well holy jayus I must have printed 100's of photo's of it buy now
from every angle imaginable!

I was thinking of charging customers double for enlargements of it,as a boredom tax!
