Seems to be a big push on over the past few weeks. All time and effort going into the bridges.

Over that way last week and was thinking the same. Taking shape now and a lot of staff working on it.

Drove past Lil Doyle's at 10pm last night and they were on the bridge working away which was good to see.

Said in local paper "Wicklow People", NRA chief was expecting them to make up lost time due to torrential weather. I also notice signs that previously stated finish date of 2015 have been covered up.

Seems to have shifted up a gear today,
3 moxys & a dozer across from the beehive & ramps taking shape at lil doyles.
Mondays always seem flat out on site, very quiet looking come 3pm Friday though!

Noticed today they've started bulldozing up around The Beehive and you can see the shape of the road.

It's amazing how much work a couple of bulldozers can do a few days. They've really changed the landscape around The Beehive end.

Yes i'm also surprised at how the earth embankments still aren't created along many sections.

They are also putting in emergency phones along the Arklow to Gorey stretch. That's what the concrete platforms seem to be for.

They seem to be concentrating on the bridges/flyovers and when they're done you'll see a rapid progression on the road itself.

Any updates anyone ? New photos ?

It's been a month since the last update so presumably there has been some progress ?

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,211 ✭✭✭BigMoose

They have still been working on bridges etc. The one opposite lil doyles is done with the road open again under it. They had stop/go with one lane again the other week under the one over the existing N11. They were either laying drainage or doing something to the foot path. Seem to have finished that when I went passed over the weekend.

You can see some earth works starting near the bends. Will try and take photos when I'm next passing, but mostly I'm the one driving.

    Any new updates?
Contractor seems to be dragging this out to be fair. Is there a projected timeframe for completion of this road?

  • Registered Users Posts: 35 Scotia Major

...because the 2015 timeframe is definitely not going to happen at this stage.

  • Registered Users Posts: 186 ✭✭iopener

So the road won't be finished by my mate's wedding down in gorey August 2015 ? The last time I went down to wexford there was a terrible crash at the end north bound arklow bypass where the road goes from a two lanes to one, a car went unto a Tesco artic lorry I think one fella was decapitated and then there was another accident on the local coast road so was stuck at Jack whites for 3 hours.they can't finish this road quick enough.

"The new dual carriageway will be constructed over a period of 28 months with an expected completion date of August 2015."

I drove south as far as Lil Doyle's on Saturday, I'm still amazed by the lack of earthworks, there's no real shape that I can make out.
To have it open in 16 months seems like a massive task.

There is a problem getting and keeping machine drivers and dumper drivers. They are using agencys and we all know what they are like. The pay is lacking also.

I was down in Arkla over the May weekend
Took these, 'twas a bit overcast, but there was a bit of progress.
There's several short sections with the sub-base done, so the hardcore will go on top of this, and one short section (<100m) between Barndarrig and Jack Whites with some hardcore down.

The bridges are coming along at a pace. The only traditional bridge construction is at the junction at Dempsey's Roof truss place at the bottom of the hill from the Arkow bypass.

3123 is the sub-base at the bend at the end of the straight north of Jack Whites, coming towards Barndarrig
3127 is the road up from the Tap and then left back towards Barndarraig
3128 is looking back towards Barndarraig from where pic 3127 was taken.
3130 is the road up from the Tap,

Don't agree with others. I think they're progressing fast now and they've made some serious progress with the ground works.

By the end of the summer I think we'll see massive progress with the long evenings.

Are the signs which say that the completion date is "August 2015" still covered over?

Can someone point me to how the plan for the new M11? I've looked and surprisingly can't find anything.

I live in Redcross and was told by a local publican that in order to get to Redcross/Barndarrig you'll need to exit at the Beehive or Jack White's. If that's the case, I can't for the life of me figure out what's going on with the bridges in front of LiL Doyles.

There;s only a junction at the Beehive and at Jack Whites.

At Lil Doyles, the new road is crossing over the existing road and the road to Kilbride. There will be no access to the new road here when built, any access now is for construction.

maps seem hard to find alright, I'd ask the nra for a copy of the EIS

    thanks for that Carawaystick.

What I can't seem to be able to picture in my mind is how the two bridges (the one passing over the existing N11 and the one over the exit to Kilbride) could possibly work as a motorway. They seem to be at quite acute angles and only 50 meter apart.

The motorway will cross the mainline( the existing n11) at a shallow angle(maybe 20-30 degrees)

It will cross the Kilbride road at a steep angle maybe 80-90 degrees.

The motorway is going from east to west as it travels north through Barndarrig

You get those 2 bridges close together as the route needs to be close to lil doyles to miss the hill above the Tap

If you get a chance over the weekend turn up at the tap and left again to see the route back to beside lil doyles,
Or even on Sunday walk up from ills to the road, if there's a fence gap open
