5pm tomorrow has been mooted. Surely no point in opening it after rush hour southbound?

And why bother about northbound commuters tomorrow morning, when set against a photo-op for some non-entity?

If they gave a sh1t about the customer/taxpayer they'd have opened it today.

Possibly some small bits of work to be done tomorrow, else they don't want people trying out a new road layout shortly after falling out of the bed on a Monday morning.

Plus it gives people one final opportunity to enjoy the Ballinameesda bends knowing that they'll be coming home on a motorway.

Nope. You can still enjoy them as long as you want! ;)

I've never driven them, and thankfully if I ever find myself myself on the M11 I can whizz from Arklow to Rathnew in 8 minutes ;)

So, will it be open first thing tomorrow or will the road be blocked till afternoon to facilitate some pathetic politician's photo op?

Traffic very slow this morning. Half hour longer to get to work. It will be great to have the road opened. Hopefully Glen of the Downs won't become too much of a bottle neck

AA Roadwatch just announced it is expected to be open to us plebs at 7 p.m.. I'm driving up from Rosslare today, and wondering how late I'll have to leave it to get my spin on this new stretch.

One final f u from the old road. I was hoping to be on the new road this evening but it could be 7pm before it opens according to as roadwatch.

I see them setting up the gig rig on the motorway close to the beehive for the opening this afternoon.

Am I correct in saying once this section and the Enniscorthy bypass are completed, there will be motorway/dual carriageway all the way from Dublin to just beyond Enniscorthy, with only the final stretch to Rosslare remaining to be done?

Larne to Rosslare, due to it being the E01 Euroroute.

NI finished their section in May.

First post on this thread was 10 years 5 months ago! Last Tuesday evening's drive down from the airport was desperate so I can't wait to drive up and back on Wednesday - postponed from today as I guessed they'd pull a stunt like that. I do the trip once a week so I really feel for anyone that's had to cope with this every day.

Was talking about the Rosslare bit yesterday with someone supposedly in the know - doubts it will be done at all. Just a bit of road improvement needed there really but unfortunately it seems the houses near the chosen route are blighted.

Well the traffic volume at present probably wouldn't justify it, and what do you mean blighted?

Its pretty much impossible to sell a house with a threat of a CPO over it; but until the threat is realised as an actual CPO the council / NRA are unwilling to buy it either. In the past, anecdotally, they (council/NRA/state agency as appropriate) occasionally would buy houses that were up for sale that were likely to be CPOed but the cash isn't there until a spend is committed now.

there are plans for the next bit after Enniscorthy (not sure if it goes all the way to Rosslare, possibly just as far as the existing Wexford bypass) - route options were published a few years ago; it's likely to be 2+2 rather than motorway.

I started that one along with a few other threads on other parts of the N11. I have to say I'm happy with how it has developed, if not the pace of change. I am anxious for the Enniscorthy bypass to start, I always feel better once they start knowing a finish is in sight. I'm hoping for more news on contract signing bundled into today's releases - or an update at a minimum. I travel from south Wexford to Dublin so this helps. I'd like the stretch to Rosslare completed but not sure it necessary. If its done I'd see it as a DC from Rosslare to both the end of the Enniscorthy ands New Ross bypasses ideally. I'd settle for the Enniscorthy bypass going to the Wexford side of Oilgate rather than the Enniscorthy side. If there is no real plan to extend to Rosslare is does not make sense to end motorway from Larne to Enniscorthy just outside the village of oilgate and create anew bottleneck.

Looking forward to my next drive down the N11 :-)

Those plans were to Rosslare. This definitely won't be discussed before the election for political reasons - there is a lot of opposition to it while in the broader scheme of things the Wexford politicians feel its the right thing for local and national development.

A preferred route has already been published for Oilgate - Rosslare route by Wex Co Co

so it's largely just an upgrade of the existing road. Maybe just build a bypass of Oilgate in the short-term, can't imagine the overall scheme being high up the list of NRA priorities.

Any news on exact opening time for traffic ?

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,920 ✭✭✭TechnoFreek

The aa have updated their website to say opening time is 5pm instead of 7pm as they reported earlier.

This is in line with what wicklownews reported yesterday.

Great. Assuming the ceremony goes to plan it sounds like it's just the safety check and we're good to go!

Do they have to remove a stand etc from the carriageway too?
