Front Door Lock Barrel Protruding

    Hi,

The cyclinder part of what I assume is a cylinder rim lock is protruding on the front door, and Im concerned about what impact it has on security.

With the cylinder sticking out, the whole lock mechanism from the front feels loose, with the metal rim around where the key goes loose.

Can anyone suggest how to fix this ?

    Thanks in advance,
    Richard

    see here http://www.diydoctor.org.uk/projects/nightlatch.htm
see the 3rd picture down, the 2 large screws that hold the barrel lock to the inside flat metal plate need to be tightened.
you,ll need to take off the lock part, thats inside the door to get acess to them.
if the cylinder bar is too long ,ie its pushing the barrel out slightly ,you can shorten it abit, cut with a small hacksaw.
tighten the screws first, they may have loosened up slightly.
DO not cut it too short.
if you are not able to do it,any carpenter or locksmith should be able to fix it,.
i,m assuming the lock is fitted correctly,in regard to the door cylinder hole.
ie the hole is not too big.
you can buy a new barrell lock unit, around 8euro in any hardware store.

Thanks for the suggestions all. Ricman, you were bang on, just needed to take the inside plate off and tighten the two screws going into the barrel.

    Cheers again
