Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Applying for the medical card

Is the medical card means tested. What do they ask you? Can students apply for a medical card.

I have been working full time and will be going back to college this september and probably will never be able to afford a doctor if i was sick. Its one thing i want to sort out as soon as i register as a student.

Now, i will be moving for the course. So do i get my own doctor to sign and stamp it or another doctor in the town im moving to. I will spend most of my time anyway away from home and if i was to come home for a doctors visit it would be the weekend when they are closed. I cant be going home to see a doctor (4 hours each way). I think it might be best to register with a doctor in a new town il be moving to?

Check out the student health services in the college you are going to be attending, many offer free GP services.

If you're on BTEA or something similar, you should be entitled I think.

I would be shocked if a person who has been on unemployment benefit for more than 9 months was denied BTEA. I bet you'll get it no problem. In the case you're not entitled, I'd doubt they would give you a medical card but its very unlikely they won't give it to you.
