Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

    Hi all,

I have a Giant OCR Zero, i think its ider 2005 or 2006 model. I noticed some noise coming from the headset so decided to dismantle it only to find a lot of dirt and rotten brings. The barings basicaly fell apart and the hole thing was filthy. I cleaned it all out and its like new now, however the bearings are rotten. The original bearings wherethese. So im wondering would i be better off buying a new headset and replacing. Was thinking of this ]one.

Thanks for all the help, so stuck at the moment, i do think im going to just take the headset out and replace it

Removing and replacing those headsets is a specialist job and requires special tools. See this.

Also, unless the old headset and the new use the same crown race (the part of the bearing that fits on the fork), you'll have to remove and replace that too.

Might be simplest to just change the bearings!

Otherwise talk to Mr. Skeffington. He has all the tools and know-how.

The headset for 2005 and 2006 OCR Zeros are integrated. This means there are no replaceable cups. You can only replace the bearings. Easiest option is to just replace it with the same model as you removed. If the crown race is worn, as Paul says, you'll need to replace that too. You can use a hammer and screwdriver to do the job, but as always, the right tool is best. If you do want to do it, have a look at the cyclus range of tools on wiggle, they are the cheapest I've come across for doing headset related work and are very solid.
