Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

    JC Decaux Parte Deux anyone?

This move is contractual, let's not get carried away with the technology merits. Let's remember even Fair City isn't on the RTE Player for contractual reasons too (which RTE have still failed to resolve).

More in today's Irish Times: http://www.irishtimes.com/newspaper/ireland/2010/0805/1224276243365.html

"An RTÉ Player app for iPhone would require the renegotiation of contracts with the rights holders of the programmes, the broadcaster said."

(The Irish Times business technology correspondent Karlin Lillington [Twitter: @klillington] is a member of the RTE Authority, btw)

Anyone interested in obtaining the discussion behind this can write to RTE's FOI office. Details are ont he RTE website.

Not really related imo - primarily because the issue of HTML5 and open-standards is really deflecting from the topic at hand - the active restriction of licence holders' access to content they've paid for. It doesn't really matter whether the content is served via HTML5 or flash means, as long as it's accessible. HTML5 would be nice from an idealistic point of view, but it's really not practical yet. and just distracts from the real point here I think.

If you're interested in discussing HTML5 though (perhaps the webdev section of boards might be more appropriate) that BBC article does make some very interesting points. They point out a lot of really big problems with the HTML5 process - fairly evident they're not entirely on board with the WHATWG, with their various forays into things like Dirac and RDFa. All topics for another thread though....

In fairness, fair play to the chap at rte for giving a proper response and not some bull/ignoring the email. I have to say I'm surprised and impressed.
