    Hi,

I've got joint pain, stiffness and swelling but haven't been diagnosed yet ... was wondering if anyone could recommend a good rheumatologist in Dublin, Waterford or Cork who could do a diagnosis. The symptoms seem to point to rheumatoid arthritis so a specialist in that area might be best. I would be very grateful for any help.

St. Vincents in Dublin have a decent enough rheumatology dept., my mother has RA and she's been attending there a long time.
I was there myself with suspected RA but it ended up being fibromyalgia (which they don't deal with).

I used to see a consultant in University Hospital Cork, out by the Wilton SC, called Michael Molloy. It was quite a while ago (I'm in Sligo now, seeing a guy in Merlin Park, Galway called Coughlan). Only transferred because of commute.
Your GP should be able to order blood-tests to determine if you have RA. S/He should also be able to refer you to a consultant. There used to be one in Clonmel as well but am assuming he's gone now with all the re-shuffling going on...

Michael Molloy is now retired. I used to see him myself. Sinead Hearney has taken over his public patient list. She is also available to see privately. Get your GP to do a full blood test make sure they check your ESR and C-Reative protien levels. Not sure if this would be the norm. She will determine if you have inflammation and will be able to treat the syptoms until you can get an appointment with a rhuematlogist. She will have to refer you if you are a public patient. I do know there is a fairly long waiting list though. Even get the bloods done and see her privately if you can and bring the blood test results with you.

Hi there - I see Brian Mulcahy at Woodside Rheumatology Clinic, Shanakiel Road, Cork (5 min drive from city centre). He's brilliant - very understanding, very supportive, you can contact his office at 021 430 7947. Good Luck. J

Haven't been there in a long time, thankfully, but you could try Daragh Foley-Nolan at waterford regional hospital, also works privately close to the hospital.

I met dr Brian Mulcahy at chase farm hospital in Enfield England, he changed my life and helped me so much to deal with a seriously detrimental illness in my early 30's. I have have psoriatic Arthropathy and still take the medication recommended by him together with T-blocker injections. I am now home in Dublin and worried very much about the management of these diseases. Anne Culley-Langan
