Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

I dropped a WD external drive there two days ago of my bed, it hit the rubber protector @ the front and it was working normal with no clickling noise.

Come today I cant access it, turned the pc off an back on and its now called a local drive. I have tried to format it and i keep getting cannot format, ive tried partition magic and swissknife has managed to place a partion half the size of the drive as we speak.

To be honest, I wouldn't trust it at all from now on with anything vital.
Sounds like your lucky to get it working at all. Use it only for keeping non-important stuff but that should be about it.
You could return tomorrow and find it wouldn't "talk" or respond back to you at all again.
I suspect that sooner or later you will have a complete fail.

I feel like a right one, reading about people dropping them and data lose and then i go and do the same. So annoying to lose a drive(well half but I wont bank on it as you say) and then the cost of it.

Is there any longer usb cables for these wd drives or something that will make it longer? Basically I have to move it from pc to tv to watch files on my mini tv. I looked @ plugless externals but they are silly money compared to a pluged one.

I'd definitely say move on and forget about it, or try sending it back to WD without mentioning that you dropped it (their RMA service is great!)
Putting anything on it now is not a wise move!

I got a 2 metre USB extension cable ages ago, I'd say somewhere like dealextreme should have them if you don't mind waiting a while for delivery.
I've only used it as an extension for my PS3 controllers, so can't really comment on using it for an external drive...

I got a plug of them already so i can confirm they are great for that, ive opened the casing and broken the warranty sticker so its a non runner. Good idea though.

I had a smaller one of them before and it worked and then windows starting saying it didnt recognise the drive. Again a great idea and if someone could say i got x cable from x site and it worked id go for it.
