Does anyone know the word / term for when a politician or similar speaks publicly about general prejudices that the local community may have?

I recall seeing this word over the last couple of days and looking it up but cannot remember it now!

    Pervasive negativity?

Are you looking for a word to describe the politician, the prejudices or the public declaration?

The politician in their public declaration. I think the word / term refers to a particular political style.

Incitive, rabble-rousing, incendiary, provocative, playing to the gallery?

Thanks but it's not a word in such common usage as these.

"Gombeen" or "Gombeen man" has been used quite a bit recently, and I can see how it could fit into your description, that is, somebody on the make.

Jingoism? That usually refers to extreme nationalism though, not necessarily what everyone thinks.

    Nimbyism. Pandering.

    That's it - I'm out.

    Denialism or Obscurantism?

I suspect he means "parochial" or "parochialism".
